Thoughts on the SD97

As the title says, anyone ever use one? What did you think about it?

I think college is killing my brain! I don't even remember creating this thread. It just caught my eye for the stock design but it seems the internals aren't half bad, metal trigger box and all. Just wondering if anybody had any experience with them, maybe a future build for me!

It's a great gun out of the box. Type 96 parts, so you have alot of parts you can toss into this thing. Good thing about this rifle it's already set up for 90.degree pistons. Great range over 300 ft accurately up to 235 feet. Had this rifle since may, so still in the fine tuning stage. It's been a fun build.

How are the ergonomics?

I remember of why I started this thread, someone placed a WTS on Facebook for this rifle, 145 shipped. Not sure if I should have jumped on it or not but I'm beginning to feel like I may have missed out on a good buy, oh well.

I loved the SD97 when I owned one. I put up a youtube video 3-years ago of me shooting the rifle at 100 ft with .43g BB's that were coming out of a stock rifle at an average of 447 fps!! I was placing every shot on an 8.5 X 11 piece of papaer at 100 ft easily.

Ergonomics? To me, they were far better than the L96, which I used to own a WELL and UTG L96 that would just "chew" my thumb up (in the thumb hole). The stock on the SD97 is fully adjustable for length of pull, shoulder heighth and cheek heighth.

I really liked that the rifle was unique, in that it came stock with the better (than stock) piston, guide rod and torque bearing as well as a metal trigger box. The trigger box was still pot metal, but was still far better than the original plastic trigger box.

I am planning on getting another soon, as I want that APS2 part build again.

you seem to be the expert on the sd97. Do you know what spring it comes with, and what the next step up would be?

Mine shoots 540 out if the box, not sure spring rating though.

Well, I got an SD99, which is the same spring and all that from the SD97. I am getting 410fps with a .43g BB now that it is breaking in. I am gonna toss in a PDI 380% SPR spring in this evening and see how it shoots...
