Didn't really consider it yet, acetone vapour works well for aesthetic enhancement but I don't think I'll really need it here. the bolt cycle is ridiciulously smooth

And I see, that's Skeee's TDC right? It's steel though so it's printed on an SLS printer, much nicer finish than an FDM printer like I used

But as far as functionality goes, it doesn't matter too much. I make my LRB caps and suppressors out of plastic as well

Reminds me... I still need to upload that LRB cap...

Not quite an SLS printer..

Quote:
To build steel models, special 3D printers deposit small drops of glue onto layers of stainless steel powder, one layer at a time, until the print is complete. We carefully remove these models from the printer. At this stage of the process, the objects are very fragile, similar to wet sand. The models then go through an infusion process that replaces the glue with bronze, creating a full metal product. Models are then processed to achieve your desired finish, sprayed with a sealant, and shipped to you.
But yeah.

Curious, I thought shapeways used SLS printers for that. Guess I was wrong

Anyway, back to the VSR-X build. I finished the barrel group today. Added some barrel spacers:

Cut the outer barrel to length for a 430 mm inner:

Added an LRB mod:

Now it just needs a lick of paint and I'll try to use it on the field this sunday. The weather's going to be absolutely crap though (30 km/h winds and rain all day is the forecast) so it may not be the best game to try the VSR-X. Will probably bring an assault rifle along as sniping generally is no fun in those conditions. But I'll try to make the most out of it

Reliku, Shapeways uses SLS for aluminum, but its also more expensive than matte black steel so I asked Skeee to just enable matte black steel.

Tomorrow's game is cancelled due to storm warnings and generally bad weather (60 mph wind gusts is no fun anyway I reckon)... No testing tomorrow

I've already gotten multiple requests to make these for people so I decided to machine a few more. Got plenty of time tomorrow now

I need to come up with a method to do this consistently. Right now I'm just eyeballing it as I clamp the piece into the vise at an angle. It's not only time consuming but it's also inaccurate so I can't get them all to be at quite the same angle. I should look into some angled or tapered cutter I reckon

The sleeve is just a sleeve that goes around the cylinder. So basically a cylinder guide ring, but much longer so it covers the entire cylinder.

Could probably make a fluted one, just for looks

Decided to rename it to "VSR-R". VSR-X is Careful's invention, and a VSR-X is made to his specs which quite differ from mine. Mine is also of lesser quality, lol. To prevent confusion, mine is named VSR-R now

Did some target shooting with it today, and damn it's consistent. No actual data though, it just feels very on point. If it performs like this during my next game my M700 might go up for sale lol.

Progress on the other receivers is going well. They're also in high demand lol

Is that light grey mag in the left side background for a VSR?

Are you working on a custom mag as well?!
