Temperature Resistant Rifle Case

Hey Guys,

I wanted to pick your brains on high end rifle cases.

So I'm looking to get a new rifle case for my VSR-X to live in. My knee jerk reaction was the Pelican 1750 long rifle case but just before purchasing it I though, could there be a different case that will better suite my needs??

Background: I live in Northern California and on a hot summer day, temperatures can exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideally, would like to be able to bring my rifle with me to work & leave it in the car all day. Then when I get off work at 4:00pm, be able to shoot my rifle almost immediately (within 20 or so minutes).

My biggest issue currently is that by the time I get off work, my rifle has absorbed all the heat in my car and has an internal temperature around 160 Fahrenheit. I feel that if I were to use the rifle while it is this hot I could damage the internals, especially the bucking.

This is where a heat resistant rifle case would come in handy. I was thinking of something like a thermos cup, that has double walls and a reflective lining. This way the internal temperature of the case will remain stable, even in the extreme heat of my car.

Has anyone come across a case like this? I have been searching but with no luck.

Before it is suggested, no I can not allow my rifle time to cool down as I have a very limited plinking window. Also, it is a non option to leave the rifle where I shoot. So a temperate resistant case is my only hope!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Is there any hope in bringing the rifle and case into somewhere with conditioned air?

Sorry I can't be relevantly helpful- only cases I've owned were simple plastic with acoustic foam from Walmart, lol.

Temperature Resistant Rifle Case

Nope, there are too many people in my office to try to stash it somewhere. The last thing I would want is for some random person to open up my case and think it's a real rifle. Plus I think there is something my handbook that I'm not allowed to bring "firearms" to work, my boss is a stickler and would probably classify it as such.

I too use the cheep cases but since I have dumped so much in to this build, I want to give her a proper home.

But thanks for the input, it is appreciated

I would imagine the Pelican would be fine so long as it is not in direct sunlight.

I use a sniper drag bag, and I have left it in the bed of my truck numerous times in the baking texas summer sun with little change to the rifle inside of it heat wise.

I stash it in my trunk so direct light is not an issue. I think a Pelican would be sufficient too but I was wondering if there are any cases that specifically have double walls with reflective lining. I want to try to keep the rifle as cool as possible.

What brand drag bag do you use? I have only been looking at hard cases, didn't even consider a bag

I don't remember what the exact brand is, but I know it is either a Condor or an NCStar. I want to say its an older generation Condor. I actually do not like it that much. While you can carry 2 rifles in it, and hold a decent amount of stuff in all the pockets. It is not comfortable to carry and it is a bit of a pain to load.

You could try lining your gun case with a sort of insulator or the like. Or if you really want to be ghetto with it, get a big cooler and stick your gun in there. Just make sure it's dry before you do lol.

Hahaha I don't think I can fit a cooler in my trunk that would be large enough to fit the rifle.

I think I will just go with a Pelican hard case. If the rifle is still getting to hot next summer, I may look into insulating the case my self but I have no idea how to go about doing that....

I don't "need" a new case, I just want a perfect one. I will probably hold off buying one till around the holidays, hopefully I will stumble upon what I'm looking for.

Thanks for the input guys

Maybe you could put some insulation under the foam or actually wrap the gun in insulation like this:

I haven't tried it before but I'm sure it would help with the heat. And hey if it doesn't it's only 20 bucks. I may actually try this for myself in the future.

That's a good idea, it's less then ideal but it would probably work.

I want to find a case that will have this lining incorporated into the case itself. Ideally having a lining like this placed in between a double walled case but this is difficult to find.

Thanks for the tip, please let me know how it turns out if you end up using it. I will most likely use something like this behind the foam of a Pelican case.

Try and contact Pelican what kind of case they would recommend. They sure as hell ain't cheap, but I'm pretty sure they've got something to meet your temperature requirements
