I haven't fielded it in two years so I have no idea.

I did loan it out the same day and the guy using it (former USMC marksman) was hugging it like a teddybear after the first match with it. I saw him make a few 200ft+ shots on heavy cover targets with 0.32g's.

Pretty sure it's going to be his Christmas present from his wife.

So since the 0.5gm are dark this makes them hard to see. So I guess the question is, what do you like more? The heavy dark 0.5gm or white 0.4gm?

Personally, I'm liking the grey .5's. They are more difficult to see, but for me, they are easier to see then any other green or black .43's I've used in the past. As long as the quality holds, I think these will be my go to bbs for a while.

Now that is some awesome advice. Really gotta try that, if it turns out well I'm definitely start using .50s for the bolt action snipers, as around here field limits are 600FPS w/.20s for basr, so even the .40s are pretty light for such high power setup.

I have historically used 0.32g in my DMR. When I shelved it two years ago, consistent 0.40g's were not available but I did have dark gray 0.40g's. I still opted for the visual confirmation of the white projectiles.

The platform I used those same gray 0.40g in was a HPA SAW. It is easier to track a bb cloud though, so not really comparable. When my supply of 0.40g's dried up I switched to white 0.36g Valken's, though likely I will switch to the BLS 0.40's when those are gone. Putting 0.50g's through the same platform seems a bit overkill, bordering on just plain mean. I'm sure I would make an exception for known blatant hit shruggers though.

I continue to stick to white 0.69g's in my BASR. The whole rifle was built around them and I'm not about to experiment with a field proven 449ft rifle.

I should be machining a custom piston for a friend's VSR build in the next month. Once that rifle is together I am sure I will do some further tests using the 0.50g's.

If I could afford to run the .69, I would. The test batch of those I have are fun to shoot, but not budget friendly for me. The .5's are a good alternative for this po boy. :-)

Makes it a hard decision for me. I like the weight of the bb because it is so heavy but at 80 meters or more, can you see it?

That is about as far as I can see them. The part of my yard that I target shoot is about 270ft, and I can see them all the way down. When I move back a little and shoot at about ~310ft (measured with a wheel measure), I lose them before they get to the end. I am shooting freehand at that distance, so I'm not as steady as on my bench, but I'm not real sure it would make a difference.

Calculating FPS of a .50G BB

Hello. I am looking at running .50 gram BB's in my 700+ FPS gas powered sniper rifle. However I do not know what effect that will take on range, accuracy, and the FPS itself. Does anyone know how to calculate this out so I can know about what I would be hitting my opponent with, and what the best optimal range would be to avoid injury to my opponent, and still be able to hit him? Thanks!

The link that was requested:
https://www.infantryshopusa.com/bbs-...050-6mm-1000ct

Their weight consistency came out to be worse than most, but not awful:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...it?usp=sharing
I haven't done the diameter measurements yet.

My intuition says the method of adding iron powder or whatever isn't going to do this material any favors in keeping it consistent in density/shape, so with the above weight metrics being disappointing and the inability to see the BB easily on top of comparably-weighted BBs available in white, I don't think I'll be buying these.

Also I know it's not relevant anymore, but the original question makes no sense. Joule creep is a concept that describes the inconsistent power output across multiple BB weights fired from the same system- there's no such thing as "needing joule creep" for any given BB...

If you're limited to a .4 you can still do quite a bit with that. It's a little more twitchy, but still very capable. Agreed, the dark grey BB's are almost impossible to see...especially in low light. Oh, and 316 fps is way too slow...over a distance of hundreds of feet you have lots of time to avoid that shot. :)

How about 400fps with 0.45? Is that more to your liking?
Or 426.5fps with 0.4?

Grey BBs=no. I used them, I hate them. You can't track your bb so you need a very accurate rifle that you are sure will hit every time spot on. I just can't use them.
