(edit) Range of upgraded A&K M24?

How much range would the A&K m24 give me with a Maple lead (cj) barrel, autobot bucking (70deg), and a ML hopup arm? I have my fingers crossed that it would give me at least 70 meters of effective range, but what do you guys think? I wish I could upgrade the hopup oh how I wish. If I could I would just get a Classic Army LTR Gen 2 and get a AA hopup for it (but I canít find one for the gen 2 or a gen one rifle) as well as a Ml bucking and barrel. Quote me if Iím wrong :)

Thanks,

AK

How are the internals? I know I don’t have to upgrade the trigger or bolt/cylinder/piston/spring guide/spring on the A&K because of its durability, but how does it stack up against the CA M24 (G2)?

How do the hopups stack up against each other? Are they both proprietary (like the A&K M24 one) or not? I will do a tdc mod I think, but how is the compatibility with parts, because I know on the A&K one I need to file down a lip to fit vsr barrels.

Thanks,

AK
If it helps, the gen 1 had an action army chamber available for it, but I don't gink the gen 2 currently has one.

Internally:

- A&K is compatible only in cylinder head and hop up internal parts. CA Gen 2 is compatible in trigger assembly and cylinder body (BUT NOT the cylinder head - it is a lot shorter than the VSR)
- A&K has steel parts for everything so does the CA. As far as durability goes in parts integrity it should be comparable, just that the CA can have some parts switched out more easily if required.
- A&K hop up arms are directly compatible with VSR while CA ones are dimensional wise different.
- Both companies have proprietary hop up chambers. A&K ones cannot be upgraded while the LTR is supported by Action Army.

Other miscellaneous stuff:
- CA LTR stock is gay. What kind of an M24 is that if it doesn't have an adjustable butt stock?
- The previous CA M24 where the gun has the adjustable butt stock suffers from weak stock materials. As in, the stock will slowly deform over time.
- CA LTR magazines are NOT VSR compatible. It is a weird hybrid between a VSR and the M24 similar to the A&K but in a completely different way.
- CA M24 is pretty light as far as M24 goes due to the lack of the butt stock.

Please note that CA stuff are pretty garbage here for their absolute lack of integrity and horrid QC, but it seems fine for the oversea patches.....so buy it under your own decision.

Overall had it been 5 years ago I would wholly suggest the original CA/PDI M24. It was a lot easier to upgrade back then since it is fully APS-2/other M24 compatible (not that it was always needed since it had great internals anyway, and even then it was supported widely), and looks a lot better than the crapshow it currently is.

It's a tough one. Is the CA M24 (original) compatible with APS-2 when it comes to the hopup arm, bucking (do vsr buckings fit in it?), and do vsr barrels fit in it? Also, do I have to buy it used? Are the stock trigger, piston, cylinder, cylinder head, spring guide and spring ok and don't have to be upgraded?

I think I am set on the A&K, as all I would have to do is:
1. Replace the hopup arm with a ML One, and once the adjusting arm breaks do a tdc mod
2. ML Crazy Jet Barrel (510mm, or should I get it shorter?) and will have to file down the hopup lip that keeps the original barrel in place. Shouldn't be too risky.
3. ML Autobot 75 deg bucking (vsr bucking). Will not do R-Hop due to the fact that I am a dummy to it.
And then I have a great sniper. The stock cylinder + trigger components and everything in that area is fine really, so I don't have to upgrade anything over there. I will not upgrade the spring because a guy just put some ptfe and upgraded the stock hopup arm and was shooting 500fps with .20s with everything else stock.

Thanks anyway, if I find a way to get the CA m24 new, then I might consider it.

AK

The original CA M24 is a lot like the Maruzen M24 (APS-2) as far as I am concerned. Consequently, NONE of the parts used on the CA M24 is VSR compatible in the slightest, but the internals are very strong especially considering its price point.

Unfortunately this rifle has been out of production for a long time, not even the CA HQ in Hong Kong has them anymore. So your only bet is buying second handed and even then I wouldn't suggest it since breakage = GG.

If you really wanted a non-A&K M24, at this point I would suggest either upgrading the Snow Wolf M24 or the Modify M24, or alternatively the Novritsch SSG24 or the Modify M24 USR150/SF/X.

A tip I would suggest regarding to the A&K:
- 510mm barrel should work completely fine.
- Be careful and keep an eye on how the cylinder head engages the hop up chamber. Once I did somehow have the inner barrel pushed out of the hop up rubber for whatever reason, probably due to excessive BBs being thrusted into the chamber and dislocated the inner barrel.
- Try 60 degree rubbers instead. 75 is too rough.

Thanks! I don't really want to have something other then the A&K, just looking at the alternatives to be sure I have the best option for the money. $200 build here we go! I will be mindful of your tips by the way, thanks for that.

I also just got the A&K. Waiting for the crazy jet barrel to arrive before I start putting the same upgrades in you've talked about.
The gun is heavy and it seems high quality. I think we made the right choice.

Get
A
BAR-10
Or
A
VSR

How many times do we have to say this LOL

Unless you're buying a second sniper rifle or are a super tech of course. If you have to have an M24 , save up for the modify. OR, OR, Hear me out... Get a Bar-10 and a Maple stock down the road if its the stock you dont like on the VSR

Notice none of the old timers have comented on the thread? There is a reason for that
When you start with a base rifle that already has lots of support you can slowly build on that over time. The CA and the A&K are both a pain to upgrade for their own reasons

A&K M24 will do the job fine for someone starting. It is just a heavy brick though. Build like a brick to so it should last

But what if I hate the Maple Leaf stock?

Jokes aside, the A&K in and itself is good, it's just that it has a few kinks one should be careful about. Compared to the real pain in the butts (DSR, M93 etc, or the at least more sensible SN M24 and M99) the A&K is infinitely easier in terms of compatibility. But to make full advantage of its "dirty deeds done dirt cheap" strait you need to know how to work out a few issues.

The BAR is pretty expensive in comparison. If he has to have a VSR rifle just go for the T11, but with enough patience and know how the A&K will do fine.

Screw the CA M24 btw, it's gay

On a budget, my person choice would also be the T11. But I guess it depends on what you can get within your budget.

I totally forgot about the T11! Yes! thats a great way to get in. If i was buying my first bolt gun today, thats the route I'd go...

Hey, wait! I just realized i'm a grown up! I can buy one now!

I disagree. A BAR-10 requires more parts, and a VSR is a ridiculous build base nowadays. By the time you finish upgrading a TM VSR-10 the only thing left from it are two screws and a mag catch. You can actually build the thing 100% from upgrade parts and use no base rifle at all.

The A&K M24 can provide results matching a full upgrade VSR for less than $200, just requires a bucking, inner, spring and some work.

mfw my VSR doesn't even use the stock mag catch nor the two screws

Reading this made me realize I had a CA M24? from a customer. It has adjustable stock, heavy, thick walled one piece receiver (or attached so well I don't see any seams or was able to separate them.) It has a 90ļ zero trigger too. I don't know if it was stock, but if it was that's a pretty good base gun.
