Looking for a fun sidearm/second gun...

Hey y'all! I hope quarantine (and it's ending) are all treating you well. With the release of restrictions, I'm going to be playing airsoft casually with some friends (haven't decided yet whether to go to a field for the first time, or play casually on someone's property with some friends). I have some airsoft money burning a hole in my pocket right now, and while I think I'll devote a few bucks to touching up my DMR (far from complete, sodium's selling me a barrel though, which I'll Rhop), I'm dying for another gun. I'm thinking secondary/fun gun for when I want something different. I would love a gas shotgun or a pistol, but I'd like to hear everyone's recommendations. Probably a $175ish price point, kinda flexible. I'd love to hear suggestions!

Iím going down the rabbit hole of AEPs right now

They are fairly cheap and the idea of not having to carry any green gas around and playing in any weather condition is very appealing to me

Currently Iím looking at the Umarex/Elite Force USP AEP, itís the CYMA USP with trademarks

You could easily pick up one of these on sale for 85 for memorial day or 4th of july. Cheaper yet if you don't care for trademarks

Assuming you have the standard tools and soldering knowhow, you can use the extra money to pick up a mosfet (20 to 30), quality tight bore barrel (30) , better spring (10) and Lipo Mod it (battery cost around 5 to 10).

I'm going deeper and replacing nearly all the internals, however the marginal return on performance return tapper quickly after the modifications I mentioned above

Gas pistol...

Wanna spend a lot of money and have a gun thats fun but not super reliable? Hi Capa

Wanna spend less money and have a gun thats super accurate and quiet but not as fun? Mk23

Want to spend the least amount of money for something that splits the difference? Looking like that new AAP-01 is quite the pistol from the reviews I've seen.

For fun though I recommend something full auto hehe. When you fire a full auto high rof pistol, sometimes the enemy AND your nearby team mates shit their pants.

Accurate.... Any way to get a mk23 good price in the USA? I've seen the ASG one available (not in the USA) for around $70 USD. Biggest issue would be shipping time.

It depends what you think a good price is. Redwolf sometimes has them in stock, as do some UK retailers. They ship to the US.

ASG is a clone, so it's cheaper, and while purists may turn their nose up to them, they will perform damn near the same as a TM after all the Hadron upgrades and ML bucking is put in. The other option is to get the Novritsch version of the gun, but some say they have QC issues.

I am considering a shortie Cyma M870 :D. Springer reliability, shoots 3 bbs, weighs 1kg

The KJ Works Mk1 pistol can be made quieter than the Mk23. Get one and then amaze the Mk23 fanboys.

What about the mk2. I'd prefer metal, but how does the mk1 feel?

You can buy a mk2 and use mk1 mags. You can’t do it backwards because the mk2 is raised under the grips to clear the co2 cartridge. Mk2 is more solid, the mock charging handle is metal, mk1 handle is plastic!

P90 or an EVO

While larger than a pistol, they are easy to tune and have a higher capacity mag than a pistol. Either works well off a single point under your dominant arm.

A local group of us who attend TCA events usually run special forces and carry one or the other tuned to the SMG class as a secondary to either a sniper or LMG.

A recently manufactured WE G18 + Maple Leaf chamber, bucking and barrel + high capacity magazines. Nothing is funnier than full auto in a small package, and that precision combo outperforms most AEGs out there.

I prefer green gas and I also prefer the lightness of the Mk1. I also added a lightweight silencer to it and so eventually the weight adds up.
I have heard of people altering/dremilling the bottom of the pistol grip to fit Mk2 mags.
