SSX23 Or Something Else?

Hello everyone!!!

I've been looking into getting a new pistol since my SSP1 broke not too long ago and I want a better pistol.
I was thinking of getting an OG Tokyo Marui, but they are 160$+ shipped where I live which is a bit much considering they have an aluminum barrel and need a new bucking as well as a TDC.
Then I thought of an ASG or STTI MK23, but Taiwangun won't ship to America and an ASG would be like 85$ shipped which is also stupidly expensive for a plastic gun.
It seems like my only option is the SSX23 as I can't find a place with cheap shipping and all.
Why doesn't any US store have a MK23s?

So, $85 is too much for a STTI but $150 (or so) is fine for a rebranded STTI?

Wouldn't bother with the SSX.

Given the SSX does have some slight improvements (smaller grip, fiber sights, TDC, metal slide and red dot ready), I wouldn't say it's a mere "rebrand".

That said, the aluminum barrel of the Mk23 is not half bad (as TMs internal finish is excellent) and shouldn't be considered as a problem.

Crazy jet $25
Autobot $10
TDC $10-30
Cool metal slide $???
NoVrItScH sAuCe $100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,420

I feel like I would already be buying that stuff so I think it pays itself off.
Still hoping I can find a MK23 for sub 70$......

It's the quality of the gun that worries me.
I got lucky with mine, it only had a badly machined outer barrel that was misaligned, causing bbs to hit the lips of a Samurai suppressor (thing's 10cm long, when I tested the TM suppressor BBs were just stuffing into it). CS sent me a replacement which is still misaligned but not as bad so it's useable now.

On paper they're all great products, but it's the actual quality that leaves much to be desired.

I mean yeah you get a TDC, maple leaf rubber, an unknown brass barrel (someone said they are EDGI but meh, could be anything really) and supposedly improved gas router (and feed lips on the 2020 version) but still you risk getting a huge lemon and having to still spend more money on it..

The fibre sights are a nice touch, I'll give you that, but the slide is off spec (mine's slightly longer than the frame) and on the SSX owners FB group plenty of people report multiple issues with the TDC cover being wobbly as hell (screwing up consistency) and generally bad magazines (feed lips breaking or needing a good old file job, gas routers being torn from factory, leaks)..

By the time you have bought the gun and the suppressor (which is an extra €50 to throw in) you realise you could've just bought a TM and slapped a TDC + ML rubber for the same price.

And yes, it's optic ready, if you can find the rail in stock :D or you buy the Nov's dot + mount, which is at least another €100 on top of everything.

It's probably a EU thing, but an upgraded TM retails at roughly the same price of a SSX + suppressor and they're night and day in terms of quality and consistency.

The barrel is also Maple Leaf (the 6.02 coated brass barrel).

And yeah the bigger issue of most Noviboy products (and the biggest pros in comparison regarding to the TM) is QC, though my TM Mk23 is such a lemon people just ask "how is your copy so bad" lol

Cool, thanks for the info. Someone did mention EDGI back when it was released but never bothered to check.

Yep, TM makes lemons too, but it's much more unlikely to happen than other brands (cough...VFC...cough).

I guess it's how advertising works, 9 times out of 10 the actual product is not on par with the ad :)

I hate gas blowback pistols but since there is no other option apart from springers and aeps my suffering continues.

Aaanyway, I would just get an ASG, because they are cheaper than the other options. Stick a crazy jet in it, maple leaf bucking and tdc- pretty much standard. Unless you really want a metal slide there is no need for one however, here are several options:

1) https://www.crw-airsoft.com/ra-ksc-c...ksc-7334-p.asp RA-KSC steel slide and outer barrel

2) DEN Trinity Shop Shooter design mk23 slides from like...titanium and crap (steel and aluminium are also available).

3) DEN Trinity Shop Umarex MK23 with metal slide.

Laylax also makes a nice metal slide, but it's TM spec so you may have some issues with the outer barrel (TM outer is 133mm long while clones I believe are 150mm)

For some reason I was told it was plastic which kinda turned me off, but good to know its metal.

Thats a shame, but oh well...
It looks like I'll be getting an SSX unless a Tokyo Marui falls into my lap since the gen2 look decent.
