Baby it's COLD outside!!!!

Well, once again we've done it...even against warnings of Greta and the other doomsdayers, as of tomorrow we get the distinction of being one of the three coldest places on Earth. It'll just depend on how the wind blows.

Maybe I'll crack out a green gas gun and watch it not work, or not be able to light the BBQ as propane no longer gasses off at -40. Oh! The old hot water to vapour trick! Always a science fair favourite!

Anyhew, if you are airsofting anywhere tomorrow, lift a glass to us in the frozen North...we're still a good 3 months (at least) from hitting the field...

You’re apparently a climate change denier and a bad man for not praising Greta so I’ll smirk and pshhh to you when I’ll hit the field this weekend in Poland where it’s currently avg +5 Celsius during the day 😄

I wish we had those temps. Man, though, why you gotta use the wrong temp units??? 😂

Pshhh smh. It’s only wrong when you don’t know it. Celsius is pretty simple, it’s 0 when water freezes, and 100 when it boils. Mr. Fahrenheit came up with something weird enough so that most countries in the world decided to stay away from it 😄

So here's my input on the whole Celsius-Fahrenheit debate. Celsius is objectively better for science related things, and Fahrenheit is better for people.

Humans are humans, not water. Fahrenheit is a great human scale in that 0 degrees is freakin' cold, and 100 degrees is freakin' hot. It's a perfect gradient that sums up most of the survivable temperatures.

For science applications on the other hand, Celsius is obviously better, but when discussing the outdoor temperature, it's never gonna be 100 degrees Celsius, and if it was, this debate would be the least of our worries.

Also, don't get into the whole "Oh, but I want to know if there will be water frozen on the ground when I check the weather in the morning," because A) there are so many factors that the precise temperature for that doesn't really matter, and B) there's only one number you have to remember in Fahrenheit, and that number is 32.

Likewise on the Celsius scale.

Just sayin..

Actually today it was about 40 F, but it should get chilly here soon. 7" of snow this weekend. Sigh....... In the winter it's frostbite and in the summer it's mosquitoe swarms. I need a more moderate climate

Uhhhhh. Spoke too soon. Currently -7 F outside. You know it's cold when it's 40 below freezing outside. It's been colder, though. Ahhh, so much to look forward to

Wait, did you you just use Celsius scale reference by using the term “below freezing”? 😄
Anyway yesterday we had +10C and I looked like an idiot wearing a dawn insulated coat 😄

Tomato, tomahto I think. I grew up 'pre metric system' here in Canada, then in high school, all of a sudden everything was Celcius. I think no matter what you get used to the scale you're using. For example, it was -42C here last Wednesday morning. For the farenheit folks, that's easy...-40F! The only important thing to remember is death is imminent if you're not equipped for it. Pretty straightforward really. By Saturday it warmed up to a balmy -20C. Still cold and is roughly around 0F. Today? It's +4C!!! That's right, almost 40 degrees F. WARM, nay, HOT... which ever way you slice it, it's a huge anomoly, and we're cooking from the inside out today. hahahaha.

So, for the Celcius heads, that's a 46 degree swing in less than a week, for the farenheit folks, it sound even more impressive...that's 80 degrees in less than a week. To say we're a little sluggish today is a huge understatement!

What does this mean for us? Well, last Wednesday we had the distinction of being the coldest place on Earth. Colder than Siberia, the Poles, anywhere..except maybe Pluto. hahahaha. Propane didn't flow anymore (no bbq!), we're basically on 24 hour furnace and plumbing watch, and you have to really go easy with the vehicles or stuff just snaps clean. For us in the equipment business, it was hell week. Hydraulic fluid turns to grease, batteries freeze solid (while the machine is running), etc, etc. After all, this was -40 WITHOUT the windchills...factor in the wind, -50 to -60. Easy.

So then, from the freezer on Saturday to THIS!!! Hey, JSmithski, I was out repairing my winshield washer fluid line in my car at lunch today...at +4C, in a sweatshirt! hahahaha. it is HOT out there! We're supposed to cool off some by the end of the week here to a saner -8 to -10. Not too hot, not too cold...still no bugs.

Anyhew, I'm sure it's not our last hit of winter yet...we have at least 3 months of serious winter left, then slightly less than winter until the end of May. Summer should be the last couple of days in July, then we start all over again!

Moral of the story is that cold is cold, regardless of scale...when I drove the ice road when I was a young man, temperature scale became irrelevant. It was pretty straightforward, really...make a mistake and die. hahahahaha
