Sidearm recommendations.

I am really torn on what to buy. I own a socom gear 1911 and 3 mags. My problem is the mags only hold 15 apiece. I am thinking about going with the classic TM mk23. My prob is I live in Texas so I will have to order from redwolf. My other option would be a kwa mp9. I know they are vastly different and play style will dictate which one is better. I am just asking for other people's opinion.

The Mk23 is very impressive. With a couple of basic upgrades you can reach targets over 70 yards! That being said it is large and bulky so you are limited on holster options. It also has a long trigger pull. Because of these downsides, I would say that the Mk23 is more of an attacking pistol. If you want more firepower rather than range a submachine gun like the MP9 or a pistol like a GBB pistol is more ideal due to a more rapid trigger pull.

I have looked at the echo1 gat but it looks like it might be awkward to carry as a sidearm. I am really having a hard time finding who can shop an mk23 to Texas. I also have been looking into the stti st23 clone. I would be more inclined to go that route as the gun will get modded to my liking anyway. I have found it at skirmshop and Taiwangun but I don't know if they will ship it to me.

Skirmshop should ship worldwide. The advantage from buying from them is that they sell all the upgrades that you will need for the MK23.

Skirmshop, Tokyo Model Company, Airsoft Global. I have shopped with them for pistols. never had an issue so far getting any pistols here to TX.

Sidearm recommendations.

If you are ordering overseas I highly recommend the EMS or express shipping or whatever itís called. Itís generally around $50+ but for some reason it seems like those packages donít get checked as thoroughly for trademark type stuff.

Edit: I generally buy my TM products from Red Wolf http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwol...e_Full_Set.htm

Dear Medicmike,

As a fellow Texas airsofter I felt obligated/eager to chime in.

Both the MP9 and the MK23 are great pistol weapons, but they are geared for very different types of gameplay. For instance, I am a ghillie sniper. I use camo to hide in plain site and take out passing targets leaving them scratching their heads wondering where the shots came from. The MK23 is my weapon of choice for this style of play. It is quiet and accurate. So, if that is also your style, I highly recommend the MK23.

If you move around alot, if you favor the CQB tactics, and like a fast paced game, choosing a full-auto weapon will suit you better and you'll have a lot more fun.

A word on the STTI ST23. I have had little success with clones and many of the serious players I know tend to stay away from them. Why? in a word, quality. Clones just aren't as reliable. That said, I do know a few people who have used them and like them just fine. They seem to be hit or miss. If you get one that works well, congrats. You're one of the lucky ones.

As far as Red Wolf Airsoft goes, I like them. Yes, it takes a while for your order to be delivered, but I've never had any issues with quality or shipping. Speaking of shipping, my last order was a Socom Gear M9A1. I played with it a little, but I mainly bought it for a Comic Con costume. I payed $35 and change for shipping, but that also included a few extra mags.

One more thing before I go, if you decide to go the MK23 route but don't want to wait for Red Wolf to deliver and want to save a few $$$, there is another option. One of the key advantages of the MK23 is that it is NOT a gas blowback pistol. All you have to do if find another pistol with a fixed slide that runs on green gas. Don't bother with the CO2 gas. It just doesn't give you the performance. "But wouldn't that be an ST23?" Well, no. The ST23 is a clone. So, just stay away from the clones.

That's all I got. Good luck. I hope to see you out there some time.

Sincerely,

the7seal

7seal Thanks for weighing in on the topic. I usually play pretty aggressive but I have recently bought a leafy suit and I'm building it up according to a video by kicking mustang. The only reason I had considered the mp9 was I had a chance to pick one up for crazy cheap. I couldn't get skirmshop to answer my question about shipping to Texas and redwolf is sold out at the moment. I currently run either a 1911 or a cz p-09 with a suppressor. I also looked at the kjw mk1 as a possible quieter sidearm. It's non blowback but looks like parts are very limited.
