I currently own 4 Ares rifles, 2x WA2K, DSR-1 V2, XM-110/SR-25(I also have a XM110 that's been converted to GBB but I won't count that!).
I had a MSR338 and the M200...
All had/have great externals but crappy internals, the newer, VSR "compatible", WA2K and MSR were only compatible is some areas.
The trigger which is a very important section of spring gun was not available .. For the WA2K you still can't find a trigger!

Personally I don't like them...

Well for me personally the performance out of the box has been ALRIGHT. I have not looked at the internals yet but im sure the are a little better than the last Ares rifles but not by much. But like i said i do plan on upgrading the gun ASAP.

True, but this model seems to have better internals than what I am used to for Ares.

Seconded! I'm stuck between either getting a Daytona Gun or a PDI M40A3 for my next gun.

I think the estimated price was at least $2000 US.

I heard it was about $2000 to. At that point is rather buy some reel steel rifles. But that's just me.

I second that. $750 for the rifle and maybe another $400 for upgrades and the rest. But $2k for 1 airsoft rifle is far too rich for my blood and much rather get a Springfield Armory M14/M21 rifle for that. great review Elfmanm, I am honestly considering to try out Ares one more time.

UPDATE: I've had the rifle about 2 weeks now and have not taken it apart yet or upgraded it. The performance of the gun stock has blown my mind. Although I am sure most of you wont believe my results. I was shooting on a flat concrete surface at my dead end street at a metal chair. My friend was standing by the chair to help zero me in. I also I used a laser range finder to find my range.

50 yards- dead on every shot
60 yards- aim a little high and hit pretty much all of them, still doing great.
70 yards- aim higher and i was still consistently hitting the target but I would say this is the max effective range
80 yards- only hit the target a couple times out of a bunch of shots.

Also my hop up could have been adjusted a bit better but this is still a great performance for an all stock spring rifle.

UPDATE:
I have not yet ordered the upgrades for the Ares so it is still completely stock. I did field the rifle in a back yard game the other night and had my longest confirmed shot with it. It was a one shot hit at 72 yards (via google earth measurements). Thats not very impressive compared to most rifles but keep in mind this is a completely stock gun.

That's pretty good for a stock gun, really good even. If you'd fit a better bucking and barrel it will surely be a great rifle.

I've recently upgraded my ares m40a3 to an a5:
-PDI 762 flash suppressor (found a surefire style silencer that fits over it, too!)
-VFC an/pvs front rail
-PDI bore up cylinder with HD piston (90 deg), end cap, surgeon handle, and m200 spring
-VFC m40a3 metal trigger
-action army hopup chamber w/PDI bucking (i had to put a slot on the end of the adjustment screw so i can adjust the hopup from the top. Made life so much easier)
-500mm 6.01 barrel (angel custom...)
-quick cuff sling, 6x42 scope w/leeper rings (low), and a harris bolt style bipod (cheapo)

Took some time to figure out since there aren't many posts on this type of ares build. If you have the time, a reliable dremel, metal files, and some creativity then you can have badass m40a5. Don't ask me what fps it shoots at; haven't convinced myself to buy a chrono yet.

soooo with the new ASG M40A3 does anyone know if they fixed the issues? Also I was wondering if the Ares MCM700X is still worth getting over the newer VFC M40A3 model. I'm not planning on upgrading either of these, more or less a target practice gun in my backyard and a display piece

Do you think it will be possible to modify Ares mcm700x magazine to hold 20 bbs?
