Maple Leaf hop arm (and "QC issues")

We all seen this way too many times: someone has a less than perfect result on a gun that happens to have any Maple Leaf part, and our good forum member Reliku (second most ML fanboy in this forum : P :P) will blame it on Maple Leaf QC issues, based on that one dude on the internet that got a Maple Leaf hop arm with the contact part off centre. And I would keep thinking how can a CNC part be off...

Well, turns out it's not just that one dude on the internet. But is also not a QC issue. All ML hop arms have the contact part off centre.

It seems it's part of the design, to compensate for the side push of the adjustment lever

(official ML youtube channel which I also just found out, that for whatever reason has the videos set as private so cannot be searched or listed -_-)

I've installed some dozen or so of this, always with great results, on par with an AA chamber + ML concave nub setup.... when it runs ok.
And I say that because there are other factors that can affect the pressure point: the ML hop arm still depends on the quality of the chamber that is being used in, which can vary greatly between VSR clone brands and even particular guns of the same brand. Any difference there will pass without notice with the original hop arm design, while the concave patch must be 100% centred over the bucking for it to work at all.

That's what still makes the AA chamber + concave nub better, as it guarantees it's gonna be a perfect setup every time. ML hop arm can still be shimmed or filed ever so slightly whenever the chamber plays tricks on it, but I've always preferred to recommend drop-in solutions.
The Maple Leaf CNC chamber should fix that as well, haven't tried it yet.

All in all, it's still a great option for a budget setup, that may or may not require some work depending on your chamber, and keeps the side adjustment, which some people (including me) prefer over the bottom screw on the AA chamber.

Great info Dimitri, I actually just ordered a ML hopup arm myself since my custom nub I made just hasn't been consistent even with a TDC mod installed. However, I am using a Snow Wolf M24 (unfortunately) and since I couldn't find whether or not the arm will actually fit the chamber, I just decided to buy it and give it a shot. Hasn't come in yet but if it fits my chamber then I'll come report my experience with it

I bought it for my m24 (a&k), installed today and it didn't work because it wasn't applying pressure to the bucking.

I'm not sure if it's because the barrel is bridged (has window) or what, but at max, it didn't lift the bb's at all. The one the came w/ the gun has a much much smaller protruding part, so it easily fits in the window and provides loads of hop-up... but it's cheap palstic... so I may file off the bridge to see if that helps...maybe on my original barrel that came with the gun so as not to risk my pdi one.

I know this is an "older" thread, but i was just linked here by the more recent Maple Leaf I-Key arm thread

Dimitri: Have you tried the Maple leaf hop chamber to see if it addresses the issue of the off center nub/patch?

Also, how did you see the official ML videos if they are private? is there another website that they are posted on? if so, can you please provide a link? OR are you refering to the AST youtube page? https://www.youtube.com/user/airsofttaiwan/featured

AST has nothing to do with Maple Leaf, they are just a distributor.

I found the video(and therefore, the channel) in their facebook group.

EDIT: is the video visible to you? there seems to be some problem with the forum displaying it. https://youtu.be/FknUTR915kM
