For glare reduction I might use really fine nylon screen, think that'll work?

I'm presume the tape on the scope doesn't block your view out of the scope?

No it does not, just enough light enters through the scope to give you a full picture- if done correctly.

To answer the question at hand, it will not block the view through the scope, and you won't even know it is there. It does allow for less reflection from the sun, which can easily make you stick out in any environment. You can even tape it up even more, but I find that how it is done in the guide is more than enough, and does the job.
