Plaz's Tanaka Kar98k Journal

Well as most of you have seen, I have recently acquired a Tanaka Kar98K.

This will be my place holder for all of the knowledge I gain working on this rifle. Which will greatly help on a future project I have planed.

The rifle itself has more wear and tear on it then what the previous owner indicated. I am completely aware I over paid for it, but I do not much care. I wanted a Kar98k and that is exactly what I got.

Now, my research into the kar98 airsoft realm has been surprisingly lacking.
The best I have found is this. Tanaka/G&G/Bar10 Kar98k Practical Review | WWII Airsoft Association

I have a plan to remedy the lack of magazines part, I need to finish my sketches and talk to the our resident machinist careful about it.

I will go into more depth on my rifle in another post, with pictures, later.

You should design a scope mount for it too. That's the main reason I don't care for it all that much, it lacks a good scope. Can't wait to see it go through man! Also, gotta hate when people lie to you on a deal, especially if you over paid on something you could have saved $50 bucks or more on.

That is in the works as well, only problem is I would need a scope with some crazy eye relief, or I build some crazy monstrous mount and rail. Either way it is in the works.

Meh, I really wanted a Tanaka Kar98 over the others. The collector in me refused to go with a lesser, and I wanted my Tanaka Owner card back.

this was one mount I tried to come up with, but I didn't know how I'd mount it on one if I was to buy it.

We all have that little collector in us. GERMAN FOR LIFE :p

That mount would require drilling into the receiver. That is something I want to avoid at all cost. When I get my lathe and mill later this year, hopefully, I plan on duplicating the gun.

The biggest challenge is that most of the parts are cast, not machined. From what I can tell anyway. When I disassemble it I will know more.

Ahh I see. if it was machined receive I would have bought it since it would be able to withstand a drilling of mount. Looking forward to what you find out.

Yes ... All Tanaka rifle are casted metal.
And if you want to use a non ZF41 scope you'll have to drill the receiver.
Personally I don't like the ZF41 looks.. I want to use a ZF 39 but I laso don't want to drill the receiver.
If you find a solution tell me...

I think I may have an answer for you Wolf. Check this out.

S & K Scope Mounts - Insta-Mounts

S&K offer both an Insta Mount and a Scout mount, in S&K and Weaver flavor. What do you think?

There is also this. http://www.amazon.com/Brass-Stacker-...9BS3ZND0Y5TKFP

I got some trigger time shooting at some empty soda cans, 100ft on .28g (all I had in the bag at the time), all I can say is POWER FOR DAYS. This thing makes coke cans into swiss cheese at that range. It punches straight threw like it was nothing. My custom from careful does not do that. I tried.

I have no clue what it is shooting but I know its is stupid hot. There is no way I can field that rifle with that much power. The local fields would kick my teeth down my throat if I did. They are already going to hate me for my custom. Not going to add anymore fuel to that fire.

Sooo... Anyone know how to power one of these down???

Picture time!

This is to show the documented damage of the rifle prior to my shooting today.

Questions if you have them, I shall answer.

No clue, but she still shoots great. The guy I bought it from (owner #2 that I know of) only put 100 through it or so, supposedly.

I will come up with a way to breath new life into it or something.

I was told it was in far better shape when I bought it, but I do agree with you.

Dunno, but it is firmly set in there with JB Weld. My best guess is the magazine was leaking from there and they sealed it with JB Weld. Bit of a royal pain, but it is fixable.
