Action Army T10 Review

The Packaging
Just received the Action Army T10 rifle and thought that I would post a review on it that may help answer some peoples questions that they may have.
The rifle is packaged in a nice sturdy box with the Action Army logo and a picture of the T10 rifle.

On the inside is a polystyrene shell that holds the rifle and magazine and the fake magazine.

That is enough on the packaging and the box as this review is more to do with the actual rifle and not the box.

First Impression

The first thing you notice when looking at the rifle is that it is finished to a very high standard. Everything looks as though it is made to last. Normally, the stronger something is, the heavier it is too. But this is not the case with the AAC T10. As soon as you pick it up you notice that it is light. Well, compared to my L96 it was light. It is heavier than a VSR10 though but that is to be expected since there is a lot more to this rifle.
As I held the rifle, I also noticed that the pistol grip is shaped perfectly. It feels that nice that it is most likely the most comfortable rifle I have ever held.

The stock has an adjustable cheek rest which in my opinion, is pointless on an airsoft rifle but they look really cool, and as we all know, airsoft is all about looks. Heck, this whole gun looks cool. Normally, when wearing a face mask, a cheek rest often lifts your eye too high for you to be able to see through the scope and this means you need a scope riser. This was not the case with this cheek rest. I was able to see though my scope with no issues. So Action Army got it right. For those people who do not wear face masks, the cheek rise does go up a considerable way and so you should be able to adjust to your perfect high. To adjust it, you simply rotate the dial that is on the side of the stock and then lock it with the dial on the bottom of the stock.

The side dial clicks as you rotate it. I did notice that when turning the dial, that it was rather stiff in-between clicks. To fix this you just need to loosen the 2 Hex key bolts on the bottom of the stock and the dial will rotate easier.

I would also advise that you also use some thread locker on those hex screws as they may come out over time.

The Stock butt plate can also be adjusted in length but you would have to purchase extra spacers to extend it. For me the stock was at the right length.

As mentioned earlier, the rifle is a very comfortable rifle. This is due to a couple of reasons. First it feels light and second the pistol grip is the most comfortable grip I have held.

The bolt handle looks very cool and I know a lot of people like it’s style but I will most likely change it for the G-Spec style handle as that has always been my preferred shape. The current bolt handle does work well though.

Where is the Mag?
The T10 has a 50 round VSR magazine that fits just below where the hopup chamber is. The place on the real rifle where the mag fits is only a storage container for a VSR10 mag. This is great as it means that the rifle has not got any BB feeding ramp that would end up having blockage issues or feeding issues. Feeding ramps are a big issue in a number of other rifles where the magazine has been kept in the correct position.

Internals

I pulled the rifle apart and the internals look good quality. All the internals and the externals are VSR10 compatible. So there is a large variety of part out there for this rifle.
The cylinder although it is not the Teflon version, is built well and it cycles great.

The piston is made of a nylon composite material which is very light but strong and it has a 90 degree sear. The sear is also made of the same material as the piston which should be fine with big springs. I currently own an L96 that has a Nylon piston with a 90 degree sear and it lasted for many years and it fires at 600fps. The advantage with the nylon piston is that it is very light and so it can accelerate really fast giving you more fps.

The 90 degree trigger is metal and so it should be able to handle a reasonably powerful spring. The stock spring only Chronos at 280fps and so I replaced it with an M170 and it seems fine. With the big spring the trigger pull was stiff and so I adjusted the trigger by putting a hex key into the front of the trigger and rotating it. The trigger pull is now good. (NOTE: Action Army will not guarantee the trigger if you go over an M130. If it does have an issue, I am going to replace it with one of their Specialized VSR10 Triggers.)(I have done an update in the following post. So please read the following post)
The other good thing about the trigger is that it also has a safety which works well.

The spring guide is made of nylon. The same material as the piston. So it should work fine.

The hopup chamber was a little disappointing. It was not the legendary red Action Army VSR Chamber. Instead the hopup is very similar to the TM style hopup but they have used a thicker plastic rod that fits into the hopup arm for adjusting. This part was a fault in the original TM hopup which caused a right hand curve as it bent over time. So with the thicker rod, it should not have that fault. They also have a changed the hopup are. The part on the arm that pushes down on the hopup is a long concave shape. This will be great with R-Hop and other similar style buckings. When shooting the rifle, the bb’s flew very straight and I was able to lift 0.45gm bb’s (Using my M170 spring). So for most people, the stock hopup will be enough but for those that are aiming to be the best, I would advise upgrading it to the red Action Army VSR10 chamber.

The outer barrel is the same diameter as a normal G-Spec but it is longer by about 130mm. This enables the rifle to fit a 430mm long inner barrel. The muzzle of the outer barrel has a thread on it allowing you to put on a G-Spec silencer adapter if you do want a silencer.

Overall Impression

This in my opinion is one of the nicest rifles on the airsoft market and it does not cost the earth. It feels light compared to many aftermarket stocks and it is really comfortable to hold as well as it is finished to a very high standard. The rifle does have a small spring and so it is very under powered but it takes VSR10 parts and so you may want to upgrade the trigger so that you can use bigger springs (I am currently experimenting with an M170 on the stock trigger and so far it is fine). You may also want to get the Action Army VSR10 chamber but the stock chamber that the rifle comes with will do the job just fine for most people.
Action Army have also done well to keep the original look of the T10 by making a storage space for an extra mag where the real mag should go. This has never been done in any other rifle.
So I congratulate Action Army on there achievement.

21-5-2018 : The plastic piston sear wore out when using the M170. Trigger and everything else is still fine. Replaced the piston with an aftermarket one. I would guess that when new, the plastic piston should be fine with a M150 but not an M170 unless you replace the piston straight away.

25-5-2018 : Cut the insides of the fake mag out and now I can fit a battery in there for my camera. I can get 9 hours of video time. COOL!!

Good photos.
With a bit of luck, a M130 spring will give 2.3J.

With a bit of luck the M170 in the rifle will last. Seems fine at the moment but it is still early days.

Where did you get the rifle from? I've been looking online and can't seem to find anyone in the USA that actually has one.
That stock looks amazing!
I know the real stock that this one is modeled after sells for $1700 USD

Action army Just told me they won't directly import this model to the USA cause the real steel stock company won't give them rights to use the design 😞

I found that kind of disappointing. I thought the internals would be the Action Army VSR parts. In a way it's sort of like how the old Nov tuning kits came with EdGI barrels and the SSG24 does not. You get to spend more money for parts that are good but not the best.

It's not that bad. The 90 degree trigger is still working well at the moment. If this 90 degree trigger does last then the only advantage the Zero Trigger has over it is that it is a slightly lighter trigger pull.
So, really, the only thing that may need changing is the hopup Chamber. Chances are, even with the current hopup, it will be about as good as an SSG.

I've got it too and I love it... Great build quality for the money. You get a great gun that's packed with cool features for the money.

I started out with the basics... just upgrading the hop rubber to a maple leaf, as the hop arm was a concave nub and the stock rubber was just a mound, (points for AA here... No other stock units come with an arm ready for a long contact patch) and I threw an old spring in to bring it closer to UK FPS limits.

It shot .4 like a laser all day... I was very impressed that for about 300 and almost stock I had performance comparable to one of my other highly tuned vsr's... That I poured hours into.

Then I did what I bought it for... Stole the stock and built a custom build with one of relikus recievers.

feel they have missed a trick, they should have been selling a fully upgraded rifle, to match the likes of the ssg out the box. Shame really could have been awesome.

They made good corporative decision to sell rifle good enough to be one of the best but you need to buy their parts to made it best of all.

Great review.

Imho they dropped the ball when decided to use such a pitiful low powered spring, that's the worst marketing decision ever.

A "deluxe" version with all the top tier Action Army's parts would have made a SSG killer, with better aesthetics and parts at 1/3 to 1/2 cheaper... maybe even a deal with some other YouTube Airsoft sniper superstar. I feel they lost a great opportunity to compete for the "best out of the box" niche.
