Any of you guys have experience with the 500 fps jg bar-10 on evike.com? I was thinking, if a rifle is sold at 500 fps, then theoretically, the trigger box should be semi-optimised to handle that power and be relatively smooth, not needing upgrades over time... If this is the case, why not recommend a panthera arm, nub, crazy jet and mr-hop + 500fps bar10 as the ultimate hyper budget gun <$230. Should function on par with most higher end builds, right? Then, for another ~$110, one can get an airsoftpro trigger plus piston, bringing the price to $340, and imo, likely being better than the ssg10, as well as introducing some teching and building of a rifle...

Starting to think this instead of the ssg10, as that guy seems to be plagued with problems, and to putting a crazy jet and mr hop in the ssg10 brings it up over the cost of my theoretical build...

Edit: oh, forgot to mention: unlike the ssg10, this build is fully vsr compatible 🙂

Edit 2: also, the BAR-10 is not a MAP product, so you can apply big discounts on it and get ~20% off most of the time

SSG10 still. Only things not compatible on it seem to be the cylinder and trigger mechs. Those two things should never need replacing and have a 25 year warranty anyway. He's having QC issues now, but I expect they'll be ironed out by middle of this year.

The BAR 10 usually requires almost everything being replaced, and depending on who you ask, even the cylinder.

The trigger, in my experience, does not last. Even had a colleague buy one. Actually shot 540fps (!!!) and then the trigger sear broke within 50 bbs. He fortunately was able to return it. I mean lets say you upgrade one and try using the cylinder or trigger mech longer and then it does break. Then you're out just as much money if not more for proper parts.

I personally don't see the value in attempting to save 60-100$ with the Bar 10 just to have a rifle that will require more work to tune and build, has no warranty, and then won't perform any better when it's done. Just pay the extra money and be done with it. Buy once, cry once. $300 is CHEAP for a BASR that's upgraded. Unbelievably cheap.

Also, the CJ barrel isn't that great on BASRs in my experience. Fine for the price, but a cheap steel AA 6.01 barrel will likely perform better.

Got it. I have no experience with the 500fps bar10, so I didn't know it's a rifle destined to kill itself. What about just changing sears? (Again, a territory I know nothing about)

You could. For the price and trouble, again, I'd just buy a new trigger completely.

My friend bought the SSG-10 hop chamber. It’s a tad different to prevent the use of other barrels. But it’s an easy fix with a dremmel. Saw this thread and figured I’d throw in some small compatibility info!

Brainexploder posted a vid about the SSG10 documenting how the front cap was too small and was nicking BB's on the edge. Pretty easy fix, but it's quite an amateur mistake for manufacturing. That being said, I still find it difficult to find something that lines up with the performance of the SSG10 at the price point it's coming in at. Per usual though, Nov could use a bit of a tighter leash on his QC...

Doublebell vsr, $110
panthera arm and nub, $25
aa barrel, $40
Mr-hop, $10
Asp trigger spring piston guide, $110
Asp nozzle
+------------------
$310 for a better rifle

Reduce price by $100 by just replacing sears

Throw in whatever extra cash to put in a better barrel from the start. Maybe a new cylinder nozzle. $340 for a high end superb build, $250 for solid rifle without a zero trigger.

I Have a Bar-10, and I do like it, however I brought mine secondhand with upgrades already installed, for the just over the cost of a new one.( if I had the choice I would have gone with the SSG10, but as I live in NZ the cost plus shipping rocks the price up way past the Bar-10, admittedly I did add a few extras in on my research cart )

Most stock parts are fine for a wee while, (backyard shooting) though I wouldn’t call it game ready.
When I looked at the upgrade cost of the Bar 10 it was well above the cost of of a stock SSG10 and it really left nothing behind of the original parts besides the externals... and now I’m looking at replacing those on mine... though not really necessary.

If it only has upgraded 45 degree sears, then it won't suit a lot of people as the 45 degree sears can't handle big springs (M170) for a long time. They will work but it will be hard to push the bolt forward. Evenentually it will start to slam fire.
(Some people have an OK run with the 45 degree sear but normally with a weaker spring. Reliability is never there)

Upgrade the hopup chamber first. (I know you have the original stock one in your rifle)

Idk how but I have seen many-a-vsr function perfectly smoothly with 45 degree sears. Many on the facebook forums. Maybe they are just lucky?

Anyways, don't forget about the other build with an asp trigger set, that puts the rifle at $310

So we have 5 budget trigger options.
1) SHS trigger sears. If you get a good set, then their good. If you get a bad set, then bully for you, return them. (£8-20)
2) AA trigger sears. Actually good, I have these, Marty Airsoft used them in his VSR10 build. 1 problem, you need to space the trigger box from the receiver for these to work in a clone. (£45-60)
3) Maple Leaf 90 degree trigger sears. Convert a standard trigger box to a 90 degree one. Don't know much else and don't know about problems. (£70)
4) AirsoftPro trigger. So many people use these that I don't see what else I could say. A good, cheap, strong trigger. (£50-80)
5) Budget Strigger. The most expensive on this list. KickingMustang uses it. Nice. (£80-90)

Expensive option- the actual strigger. (£110-120).

Jg bar-10 vsr, $85
panthera arm and nub, $25
aa barrel, $40
Mr-hop, $10
Asp trigger spring piston guide, $110
Asp nozzle $35
+------------------
$305 for a better rifle, no worry about novy QC, no need to upgrade, no need to worry about being off-spec vsr (so you can get a wasp/sap in the future) also testimony says the asp nozzle seals an mr-hop 🙂

In my opinion, the SSG10 is probably the best option for the money.
It has a 90 degree trigger, good cylinder, and basically everything seems to be good.
The issues that the SSG10 has are very simple fixes compared to every other sniper I know of.
You simply need to sand here and there, grease here and there, clean here and there and very minimal mods.
It seriously sounds like no big deal unless you don't like Novritsch or something.
