List of Springs vs FPS Output

***Contributions to this thread are appreciated, and you will be credited for your data!***

Since most of the guns in this section will be born from an AEG... Most of the guns will have a gearbox. I'll start by saying I have always had some problems distinguishing FPS differences between springs across all of the companies.

A lot of factors can add into the FPS output of a spring such as compression, cylinder volume vs barrel length vs bore size, proper seals, piston weight and etc etc.

I found some good information here I am pulling from an archive on my home site C3. The data was originally mined from Amplified Airsoft. The list here should give you a rough estimate of what FPS a spring will give you if you are running stock internals.

Be warned of course... Running stock internals with a Guarder SP170 will strip your teeth pretty quick. But, if you've dealt with gearboxes for long enough, you should already know that =)

Again...THIS IS NOT ALL OF MY OWN DATA. I have found it to conform with most of my applications pretty closely, but either way, use it wisely. I am not responsible for your day getting ruined when you're 5 FPS over the field limit and don't have a backup!

To the best of my knowledge, I can only conclude from researching that this is advertised/marketing data provided by manufaturers.

CA M100 springs have an output of 320-330 on a standard M4 length (363mm) barrel, no bearings. (No spring guide or thrust bearings)

Tested and proven in over 50 guns

If more data comes in like that I'll just keep updating it with an addendum and your name.

Adding to the list. That's funny that the guarder sp120 worked that way for you. For my v2 gearbox it was actually pushing 430 fps! I had to cut two and a half coils off to keep it 400 or below for my field limit. I feel like the data that I mined is split by gearbox types, as it seems.

Guarder spring tend to shoot around 30fps higher than other manufacturers' springs.

Brief list of some test results

Hi everyone!

First of all, i'm a recently inciated airsoft player... so don't expect much...this 1st post is just to give some test results i got on my mod's...

All of this have been chronoed with an UFC Pro chronograph...

The gun is a low cost Dboys M4 SD (modified to M4a1 version) with stock torque gears...
Motor - BIG DRAGON M140 Ultra Custom Motor
Piston - ICS 7 teeth metal
Piston Head - Stock
Piston Head Ring - X-Ring
All parts (Mech/Air Seal) lubbed with Super Lube, PTFE lube...

RESULTS:

JBU 363mm Barrel - 6.03mm
Guarder SP120 + Prometheus Soft Bucking - 426 [email protected]
Guarder SP120 + Stock Bucking + Teflon tape - 412 [email protected]
Guarder SP110 + Stock Bucking + Teflon tape - 365 [email protected]

Prometheus 509mm Barrel - 6.03mm
Element M165 + ICS Bucking + Teflon - 560 [email protected]

All this tests have been conducted in order to start a DMR build.... and the 1st conclusion... for myself... M140 should be enough... for the intended role!

Hope you enjoy...

Well, I also found it funny. A friend of mine use the same spring and got this result.

Guarder SP120 420fps
Guarder SP130 460fps

All this using JG M4A1 363mm inner barrel.

We believe it's because of the quality of air seal and different inner barrel diameter and lenght.

Great information Hallos, thank you. Just be sure to post an introduction post on the new member section of the forum. I'll add your information to the chart.

Just purchased a new APS UAR which will allow me to quickly check FPS ratings of just about any spring... So I grabbed the entire Guarder family of springs up to the SP120. I'm still waiting on an SP110 but I will post my results from the SP85, SP90, SP100, and SP120 right now. I'll be the first to say that the SP120 slowed down the gearing in the box, so I don't plan to be using it in the gun regularly. Either way, check above for details!

Note: All of my FPS tests were done on a stock setup in this gun!

Typo on the guarder M170 spring.

Guarder Spring SP150
- 480 fps to 390 fps .20g BBs varies by AEG.

That's mined data so I never really bothered to filter through it. Thanks!

I'm sure you probably know already but for a rough estimate of what fps you can expect. Fps=Strength of spring X 3.28

I.e. 150 x 3.28= 492fps.....ish

Yeah I know the physics behind it. I'm more looking for hard evidence, i.e. chronographs and etc. Also, some springs are not measured the same way like PDI's, or they may not have the same irregular pitch as the next spring... Or whatnot.
