Marui or Maruzen?

Good day all. My name is Erik and have been playing airsoft w my kids for a few years now. Love it and it’s a good way to hang out and have some fun w my kids and their friends. I’m totally hooked:). I picked up a package deal recently that included a newer G&G m4 and a sniper rifle. Got a good deal on it so not a big deal if the sniper isn’t my preferred platform. Not sure yet.

I’ve read these forums backwards and forwards trying to answer my question about the L96 platform. This is my first sniper that I’m thinking about upgrading.

I just purchased an Action Army “Type 96” hopup chamber to get the accuracy dialed before starting to increase FPS. I’m hoping this is the correct part for my gun. After reading a bunch I’m just not confident I have a Maruzen or Marui L96. The kid that sold it to me said it is a Well mb01 but I don’t think he knew.

Mine has the larger square magazine very close to the trigger. NOT a small 20 round rectangle mag like a JG Bar10 in the fore-grip. Any ideas if Maruzen or Marui and does this matter with the Action Army “Type 96” hopup chamber?

Thanks a ton for taking the time to help me.

Erik

Since this is my first post I’m not sure how to attach a pic so let me know if this is possible or I can email.

Also I reached out to Reliku but not sure he responds to individual people but he seems to have a lot of experience. I’m open to any help getting this project started. Thanks guys. Great site.

Here’s a pic that looks very close w the 40 round mag near the trigger. Mine does not have the leveling foot on the rear of the stock but everything else looks similar. It states it is the Marui L96 made by Well so I think the difference is mag location/size? In this case, the action army type 96 hop up chamber might NOT fit because it says it is compatible with Maruzen style L96 rifles. Is this worth upgrading. I just thought all the L96’s were the same. Frustrating. Thanks all.

WELL makes a copy of both of the Tokyo Marui (MB4402 Series) and also the Maruzen (MB01 series). You have the WELL MB4402. So the Tokyo Marui version.
This version does have a very small cylinder and this makes it very hard to make it into a very long range gun. The most you can really make one fire is about 500fps but this is with an incorrect cylinder to barrel ratio. With the correct cylinder to barrel ratio, it will only get about 470fps. If your club fps limit is 500fps or more, you may be better off selling it for either a VSR or a WELL MB01.
If your fps limit is 450fps or lower, then the rifle should be fine.

Unfortunately your AA L96 hopup chamber will not fit your Marui clone. The Maruzen/Well clones use a completely different hopup chamber. The Marui hopup uses VSR bucking and barrel so there are lots of bucking and barrel options. I believe the marui L96 hopup chamber is a decent design. Not sure how well it seals. On the other hand, the Maruzen L96 chamber uses proprietary bucking and barrel. That’s why the AA chamber is such a desired upgrade for Maruzen/Well clones because it allows you to use AEG bucking/barrels.

You can probably get decent results from the stock marui clone chamber by upgrading the VSR bucking/barrel and doing a TDC mod.

Sorry guys that I went silent but had to focus on my work. I wanted to publicly thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my post and finalize my endless reading of forums. I’m going to take the advice and sell the TM L96 and probably start over with a JG Bar10 since it seems to be the better base for upgrading. I really like the looks of the L96 but the one I have seems heavy to lug around all day and not ideal for upgrades. Not sure if the Maruzen is lighter so we will see. I just want a good base platform to start building from.

I’m sure I’ll have a few questions in the future but in the meantime, enjoy the weekend!!! Thanks again.

The Maruzen L96 is about the same weight.
The Bar10 is the pick of the crop.
