Preface: We are not stealing Builder's design (I don't even know what his design looks like) so please don't even go there :)

We were going to start with the select fire mechanical blowback gearbox but since developing the non-blowback version of it is on the path to the other and since I've seen a lot of interest in a NBB semi-only mechanical gearbox on this forum we are going to start with that first.

We are working on a prototype right now and hope to have a build by the end of this year. We are going to start with a V2 then do a V3 and then a V7. We don't have any clear view of pricing at the moment but they aren't part intensive so don't expect it to be anywhere near what a P* costs.

These gearboxes will have the FPS directly controlled by the PSI (and BB weight and length of barrel) you put into it and they will be safe-semi only. This is meant for those who want to have dedicated DMRs and semi-auto snipers. I've personally noticed that PolarStars are being banned as sniper rifles in large Ops and this would be an acceptable replacement because they are mechanically locked to semi-only and FPS adjustment by regulator only.

The plan is to release the NBB mechanical semi-only gearboxes while continuing to develop and prototype the blowback mechanical select fire gearbox (cause this is our ultimate goal). We are also going to have the option to buy a blowback mechanical semi-only gearbox at the same time we have the select fire ones available (if not before the select fire are available, that's still TBD).

I've spoken with Builder in the past and we have the same ideals and hopes and disgusts with the present and future of airsoft. I hate AEGs with a deep deep passion and GBB guns are just not there yet. Polarstar was a good thought but has been abused and corrupted by immature children who only care about BB hoses and hurting others. It also uses a battery and can easily completely drain and ruin a lipo (as I have experienced twice now).

Mechanical gearboxes might seem like we are taking a step backwards in terms of technology but really we are improving upon the classics and the reason the classics still exist and work is because they were mechanical and solidly made and easy to maintain. I bet most people can't say that their AEG has worked for longer than a year at a time before having to fix something.

We are hoping to be able to take pre-orders at the start of next year so save that holiday cash!

I am listening... I am willing to turn this into a "Shut up and take my money!" moment.

Is the regulator a normal dual reg setup like we currently use or is it integrated into the build?

I have a ton more questions but I will ask them as I see the need for them to be asked.

Let me know how much. I am game. Also... Shut up and take my money! I said I was willing now i have done it!

Shut up and take my money too!

Oh wait, Builder has it. And I have nothing to show for it. Oh well.

If you think it would be possible to get one of those out within maybe a few months, you may have a customer of me anyway.
I don't expect you to discuss pricing yet, but let me know when you can, Geo!

ETA on the mechanical blowback? If it's relatively close to the NBB release I'd rather just hold onto my money and wait...I've been wanting a blowback rifle but gas isn't worth it in Washington.

Also Geo did you ever find a range to test your prototype?

No ETA on the GBB version, hopefully January for the NBB prototype then just a month or so for production if viable.

Unfortunately no, what I might have to do is find someone who I can send the barrel to test it for me who will do a very thorough job and be in constant contact with me.

Unless you have a range? :)

Hmm, I guess I'll have to try the NBB when it comes out then first.

Well I might have access to a range; it's my grandparents property so I'll need to ask them. I can let you know in a week or so if they'll let us use it.

If not, I have plenty of land up here if you need a tester. Can run it through pretty much any kind of set-up you want with almost any BB weight...think the only one I don't have off hand is .36's.

Geo keep me posted on this. I still have an air rig and two tanks around from when I was waiting on the revolution engine. I'm extremely interested in GBB, but I will take what I can get and a NBB will be an interest too. You're sure you will be able to fit this into a version 7, right? I'm extremely excited to see this work...

Hey Geo my folks own a couple plots of land in the middle of the desert around Orange County...exactly how far from Irvine I'm still working out.

PM if that'll work for you and we can work out details. It's looking like its between an hour or two drive. A bit farther than what you were hoping for I think.

TJ, the Version 7 of this gearbox probably won't come out for awhile after the Version 2 and 3 since there are more guns that use those, but I promise you we will have a Version 7 of it at some point.

So how many rounds will this system of your get on a 12g co2 with a regulator?

I'm really wanting to turn my snow wolf m82 into a gas gun but will only be able to use 12g-90g co2 one time fill bottles. And I can't justify spending 400 on a polar star.

Why not a refillable 12oz, 140z, or 20oz CO2 bottle? i have seen a few 10oz and a 8oz too. Just curious on why you would run 12grams.

Because I have a ton of 12gs and they are small and could probably fit inside the stock.

I also don't want to run to the store everytime my tanks runs out. I have a compressed air tank I use for paintball and there is a paintball place right down the street from me but I don't want to go fill up there everytime I run out. Seems very inconvenient.

Since the only field in my area closed. I only get to play with a few friends around the house. I live on 6 acres of woods.

Fair enough. I imagine the gas efficiency would be pretty good on it. You going to single reg it or dual reg?

Now with putting that in the stock, wouldnt be hard to change out cartridges?

Either way that thing is going to be BA at the end of the day.

So funny you mention co2 cartridges. I have actually done the calculations for how many shots an extremely efficient 650mm barrel system would get. The math is as follows:

12g CO2 x 1mole CO2/44gCO2= 0.2727mole CO2

V=[(0.2727mole)(0.0822)(293)]/4.08atm (which is 60 psi at ~70F degrees) = 1.56 L

That's 1,560 ml

The volume of a 650mm barrel:

V = h(pi)r^2

so 650mm x 3.142 x 3.03^2 = 18750 mm^3 = 18.75 ml

1,560 / 18.75 = ~83 shots

Not a lot huh?

a 16g has 2,146 ml at 60 psi = ~114 shots

This means though that co2 cartridges will not work for regular semi-auto/full auto weapons, but it'd be great for a semi-auto sniper.

I will for sure be posting a build thread if I do the build. As long as I can work out a good deal with Geograd ;)

I would do a dual system if I can get it in the stock. And it won't be hard to change them because you pull one pin and the whole top half slides off.

A 650mm barrel would be perfect for my gun. So it was good that you did that with a 650 in mind.
That's not a whole lot but it is a semi sniper. And if I do want more shots they sell 90g co2 cartridges at academy. And I think those would fit in the stock.
