What kind of lube should one use for their sniper rifle? I assume that every so often, you want to pull the piston and relube the chamber and o-ring and all that.

So what do you use for that? Is there a specific oil or grease that works best?

You're talking about the cylinder of a spring BASR right? I believe most people use white lithium grease. I personally use teflon grease and it has worked fine for me so far so good.

I use Hater Sauce, it's leftover lube from when I played paintball. It's good stuff.
I initially used the silicone spray, but the HS lasts longer.

what a dumb as hell question!!!

Haha Jk man ;) I've used silicon/grease mix for a while and it works pretty well. like maniac has stated it will disappear quickly making you constantly relube the part(s) that you want to keep in function.

I lube with silicone liquid type. look it good enough.

What do they use from the factory typically? The gun is the TSD SD98, basically an upgraded Echo1 ASR. I want to make sure that whatever I use will keep the gun working properly, keep the seal and compression good, etc...

So there are two different greases within the cylinder? One for the piston and o-ring and one for back where the spring and guide rod are?

How do you keep them from mixing?

Ok, cool, good to know.

I am looking for a YouTube video or something of the process, so that I can watch and make sure that I do it right, but not finding it yet. I will keep digging.

That DOW 111 looks to be what I need, I also see people using Permatex Dielectric silicone grease... Do local stores sell the DOW? I know I can get the permatex at any auto store...

Is there a reason why that grease isn't good to use on both the piston/o-ring and on the spring guide?

Never heard anything about using two different compounds. That sounds very fiddly.

I use a tiny bit of 111 on the guide and spring, and a very thin coat on the inside of the cylinder.

A tube this size will last you quite a while. I have about 75% of mine left, and I bought mine in 2008 (used on about 40 different applications).

Cool, just ordered a tube. I will use that on both. I don't see why the lube that works in the cylinder for the seals, won't also make a decent lube for the rest, and then I don't have to worry about any cross contamination of different types of lube...

Thanks!

I have about 1000 rounds or so through the gun so far, I will open it up and clean it and relube it when the stuff gets here.

As long as I am opening things up, anything else I should do while I am in there? Teflon tape? Is that really needed when the air nozzle itself has a greased o-ring to seal it?

Also, how much should go in the piston area and should I do anything with the O-ring?
