I polished my steel barrel and brass barrel yesterday. I used turtle wax urethane enriched car wax and it worked great on my brass barrel and saw a lot of shine but on my madbull steel barrel it didn't shine at all. Also, I just shot it with my steel barrel and saw no improvement. Everything was the same as before which is really good but I thought the polishing could help more. These are the steps I did:
1. Clean the barrel with cleaning alcohol and then ran a dry swab down barrel
2. Put an unjamming rod that came with my l96 in the polish compound and stick it in the barrel
3. Wipe off the excess polish on the unjamming rod
4. Put the cotton swab down the barrel and push it with the unjamming rod.
5. Clean the barrel with alcohol again.

I think I did everything right but it isn't shiny. Any help would be appreciated.

Steel is a lot harder than brass so it takes more work than with brass.

If you really want to improve the surface finish, consider lapping the barrel, that's probably a lot easier

But need to buy properly tools, and diamond paste/lap compond, right :hehe:?

The newest installation aid is a spring. It isnt the older gen rod. It slightly compresses when put in a barrel. So it could work but youd only get one compound micron. It wouldnt serve the same purpose as a pack of laps

two questions:

Is there other "thing" cheaper than HS5 ?

This can re-use or just once for 1 inner barrel ?
You can only use each lap once and you need one lap per compound size. You can make your own laps or even use the same trick as with polishing (but that will make the barrel uneven if not done right) so if you want to do it right, such premade laps are the easiest (although a tad expensive).
