Hello,

My first post, just been playing with a longer barrel (laylax 6.03 430mm) in my GSpec. I was interested in seeing if it increased accuracy compared with the standard barrel (6.03 303mm).
I'll test that tomorrow but I measured the fps using a chrono prior to the upgrade and averaged 478 fps, now with the longer barrel in place (everything else the same including replacing ptfe tape where bucking meets barrel) I'm averaging 440 fps. I was expecting the fps to go up and possibly having to cut the spring down rather than the opposite.

Interested if anyone has an explanation or see this behaviour before? I'll take it apart, re-fit everything and re-test just to make sure I haven't made a mistake.

Regards

Richard.

Actually thinking about it, most people getting a different barrel go to a smaller diameter which I can see would increase fps. As I've kept the same 6.03 diameter and just increased the length then that would explain it as the longer barrel will have more friction?

I always use 6.03mm and you should have had an increase. Pull it apart again and recheck everything. You should have had an increase in FPS (even if only a little increase of 5-10fps)

Cheers, thanks for re-confirming. I'll do that tomorrow and put all back carefully then re-chrono. I'll post here if I find what the cause was.

All fixed, in case anyone else has the same issue. It was due to a hole in the ptfe tape wrapped round the bucking / barrel. I reinforced with dental floss and with the new 430 mm barrel plus floss fps increased from 480 to 515 fps.
