Hello everyone, I am new here to ASF and to the sniper scene as a whole. I have a dilemma that I need all of your expertise to help rectify. I have been doing countless hours of research in attempt to come to a conclusion as to which rifle is best for me. I had originally decided on an Echo-1 M28, and had my heart set on it, until I had learned that its internals are proprietary, which is horrible for me specifically as I plan to heavily upgrade the internals. I dug a little deeper and saw that it was still possible with Ranger's Custom's, which I have utmost respect for. Not that I don't trust him, but I would rather have a rifle that is very upgradeable with the very trusted and renown, APS-2 or VSR parts. To save myself the headache, I decided to keep searching. After reading up some more, it had boiled down to the Classic Army M24 and the JG Bar-10. Both being perfect platforms to upgrade, I decided to go with the CA M24, because of its excellent externals. After days and days of research and finally arriving at a conclusion, I realized, just my luck - both guns are no longer available. Womp.

I have emailed several retailers regarding the Classic Army and I am still awaiting a response. What are my options from here, other than purchasing a used CA/JG? I have been leaning towards the M28 again, only because Ranger has made it possible to upgrade. Plus, I would be pleased to support him and his business, I have read at least 10 threads from start to finish and he seems like a great guy doing great things all for the love of the sport....and some money :) I honestly would love to send him my business. Also, I would like to stay with the M40 platform. Please give me your feedback guys! Thanks.

If nothing else is available the M28 is a great choice. I love mine. Honestly it feels more solid than some real steel rifles (though maybe a tiny bit heavy if you're a smaller guy). You probably already know the compatibility issues with some internals from research but I'll just write it quick. Bucking, barrel, trigger, spring guide, spring, sears and hop up arm are vsr compatible. Really the only parts that are not vsr compatible are the hop up chamber, cylinder, piston, mags, and the externals. Basically the main difference is that the M28 cylinder and piston are a few mm longer than the vsr/ bar10. This can possibly work to your advantage though, since I think it would mean a slightly larger air volume works together with the slightly longer barrel than a vsr, 515 ish compared to 430 stock.

I guess this kinda turned into a mini m28 review so if your'e still reading this I might as well mention a few issues... The mags suck at first, but once they're broken in they work fine. Stock trigger is all metal and not to bad, though some people's sears go bad. I just shimmed the triggerbox and It's been good for maybe 20k shots so far. 45 degree sears work fine but not ideal... can be changed with a custom piston/trigger. The shots used to hook terribly; a tdc mod, new bucking, and .40g bbs fixed that. Also I technically have a SWS X28, it's on airsoft megastore, basicly a AMS rebrand/no brand echo 1 m28. Dosn't come with all the accessories that the M28 does but it's a bit cheaper.

If you can get past the few compatibility issues it's not a bad choice.

Great information..... Seems to me that the M28 is definitely doable. I was under the impression that I would be at a dead end when attempting to upgrade all internals with the exception of the parts that Ranger produces. It gives me peace of mind knowing that there are a few VSR compatible parts.

Does this mean the M28 is not PDI hop-up compatible? Sorry if this information is out there. I am still in the midst of researching.

In regards to the trigger unit, I have heard great things about the S trigger system from Ranger. Will this be the most optimal solution without cost being a factor?

I think that the m28 hop up chamber is it's own proprietary one so no pdi there. However if you do a tdc (which really helps anyways) then it dosn't really matter, the stock one isn't "bad" it's just not great, but it does the job.

If my sears fail then i probably will get an s trigger from ranger or something. "I" lathed my own aluminum piston, so I didn't need to buy one from him. I'm sure his pistons are great though.

I don't mind helping out here, until recently it was difficult to find out what parts were really compatible with what on the m28 unless you did a lot of searching. I think there's a few threads on m28s on here now though.

They are in stock on airsoftmegastore too.
