Hey all.

I couldn't seem to find anything in the search engine, so I'll ask for your input:

I'm looking for an 8mm rifle. Gas is probably what I'm looking at for propellant. Durability, tight groupings, and the ability to mount a bipod/optics are also a requirement. Mag capacity and weight aren't a concern.

I'm not too keen on the VFC M82 series, although the marushin garands seem like a plausible option if there were a way to up the velocity.

If anyone has any ideas, don't hesitate to post.

1. Please make an intro post.
2. Read the rules
3. The search engine is on the top of the page.
4.
You want 500fps with .48's!!!!!!! That's like shooting 650 with a .3 (not to mention the increased impact energy). You better have at least a 200 foot engagement distance, or better yet, don't play that hot.
5. The Garand is not a good platform for use as a sniper rifle especially if you want a bipod and optics.

Silent is right, 500 fps with .48s?? ??? ???

Not only is that unnecessary but it is dangerous as well. The people you play with should know better than to let you use a rifle shooting that hot.

We have guys on here with rifles shooting 500 fps with .2s getting range out to around 250-300 feet.

There is no reason for you to have a rifle shooting that hot. I am going to give you a chance to explain yourself, otherwise I am locking this.

Agreed with silent...

And just to add. There are so few parts for 8mm it doesn't make sence to use them. The 8mm is much more effected by the wind than a 6mm is. That and you cannot find heavy enough ammo for the 8mm.

You would need atleast an .7-.8 gram bb. And to my knowledge there isn't any that can be used in a game. And an 8mm rifle shooting at 500 fps...... well if you were playing in a game with me, and shot me with it.... you would probably have a broken rifle and nose.

So in short..... 500 fps in 8mm is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!

Got it. I used the search engine before, but it cut out "8mm" because it's under four characters long.

I guess a reasonable amount of velocity to propel a 0.48 is what I'm looking for. The garand shoots around 240fps using 0.34's without an upgrade, and the barrett shoots 290-310 with 0.34's.

Yeah, thanks Hidden. The rules clearly state that anything past 550 fps is not allowed.

You sure you did not mean to have a rifle shooting 550 fps with .2s, and just want to use .48s in that rifle? For example, I say my rifle shoots 430 fps, and I use .4s. The 430 fps comes from using .2 gram bbs, but no one uses that light of a bb in their sniper rifle.

Edit: WOW! We had like four guys post all at once.

Jebus, that sounds better. Any reason why you want to use .48s? Why not a somewhat lighter bb such as a .36 or .4. It will give you some more fps, and will still not be affected by wind much.

I made the mistake of assuming weight meant a flatter trajectory. That was the whole purpose behind this project. I also assumed that you needed a much higher fps to carry that bb.

Lol, we were all concerned for the guys he would be shooting at with that thing.

I see you have a M700 why not upgrade that to hpa, it would give you the increased range you are looking for. Or are you just looking for a new rifle, ;).

Here is a link to ASF were there is a guide on how to convert the mags to HPA, http://www.airsoftforum.com/board/search.html&CODE=show&searchid=b8a72de27859cca85f8e0846553af978&search_in=posts&result_type=topics&highlite=m40a1 .

You can have a flat trajectory with various weight bbs. For example, if I wanted to, I could get my rifle shooting straight with .3s, as well as .4s. It has to do with the hop up and how you adjust it.

Heavier bbs do not necessarily need more fps to get out as far. With a fine tuned hop up, the .4s in my rifle can fly just as far, if not farther, than .3 bbs with the same power. The .4s just take longer to get there.

However, .48s will need much more hop to get the same range, if thats possible, depending on your hop up power, and other variables.

Lol, we were all concerned for the guys he would be shooting at with that thing.
Hahaha, shows we care alot here.

hidden, thanks for the link to the HPA mod, and thank you all for for making sure this didn't turn into something dangerous. This project I wanted to start was simply for the purpose of making something exotic, and something that could reach out a bit further than other airsoft rifles, so yes hidden, I am looking at getting a new rifle, although that hpa rig seems like a pretty good idea as well.

EDIT: Intro posted. Periods properly placed. Look at that, I'm making friends already :)

Heck I have had some awesome success with the Bioval .27's. But make sure to check with your field before you use them in a game.

Hey no problem man, just make sure you get that intro post up and everything will be good.

We just don't want to see someone get hurt and ruin it for a group of people.

You know thats unnecessary man, a rifle like that could easily kill small game. As stated, they really do sail in the wind.

I will only tolerate discussion about legal rifles on the forum. I wrote them into the rules for a reason, and everyone else know exactly why. Any more talk of hot rifles, and this thread will be locked.

Yeah man, but once you start pushing over 600fps that is uncalled for.
You can land a 100 yard shot with only 520fps, so the extra 40-80fps is relatively unnecessary, especially when you have shitty teamates and you've got guys moving in hot.

When you have a hot shooting rifle, you make more of a useless gap for yourself. Too far for sidearm, too close for rifle. I used to keep my VSR at like 450fps with no sidearm so I could "sure shot" people at a closer range. You just need to know how to hide and evade, only works if you've got a set of legs on ya.

Has no one taken into consideration the larger surface area of the 8mm allowing for safer high velocities? Smaller BB's penetrate easier, the larger ones have a much tougher time doing the same. Also, the larger surface area drastically slows them down at a much faster rate than your standard 6mm. I see this scare happen every time someone mentions the words 8mm...

Other than the unsafe velocity scare, everything else has been right about the 8mm. It sucks dick for accuracy. Very hard to stabilize with the hop up and even harder to get shooting straight in the lightest breeze.

Well If you have a gun shooting hot you could use a mid-range secondary.
I personally use my GBB MP7 for that purpose and then I have my GBB KP45 for close range. My 3 gun system works well for me using a high velocity sniper rifle that shoots 520+ fps.

520 isn't a high velocity setup in the sniper world...

Your 520 rifle shouldn't make for a need of a long distance MED, nor should you need a side-secondary for the specific purpose of filling in a "medium range". Your pistol should easily get 100+ feet of range and your rifle has no need for a MED above 100 feet.
