So there has been a few questions about this sniper rifle, I have in the last week bought two, i basically modify them and sell them on.
I bought mine from evike, with 10% discount coupon and free shipping, I also purchased 2 spare mage, maple leaf vsr hop up arm and auto bot 60 degree bucking.
So the observations in no particular order just as I remember them
It’s heavier than a VSR but as the weight is mainly from the solid stock it feels balanced and not front heavy, this weight helps to deaden the sounds and makes the gun steady to shoot.
At first glance it’s very similar to an SSG 24, fluted barrel, adjustable stock shoulder pad
Stock, it was shooting 400 FPS with 25s
The bolt pull is rough
It has a steel cylinder, steel spring guide, 90 degree trigger and piston, the first one I had, the cylinder head was not loctited on but the the second was. Both of them had perfect air seal on the cylinder as in cock and pull trigger and there is no air loss.
The barrel is bridged and brass, the hop up similar to a VSR but smaller, the maple leaf hop up arm fits perfectly though, I do not think the SSG24 hop up will fit due to the barrels having slightly different cut outs but I have not yet tried this.
There are no barrel spacers as such.
The receiver and barrel are a push fit together, where as the Modify and SSG24 screw together, this means they are not interchangeable also on the A&K receiver it is one piece so it cannot be changed as the SSG24 and modify one can to be adapted it to left handed use.
So that’s pretty much it, I did not give measurements as these are available on several websites.
Modifications carried out
I removed the bridge on the barrel, fitted the maple leaf arm, auto bot bucking, polished inside the barrel and made blue tape spacers.
On the receiver I removed the paint from the inside areas with 400 and then 800 grit sandpaper, I then polished it as well as polishing the cylinder.
It’s is now shooting 455fps with 25s and can lift 40 and 45 bbs easily, it has an accurate range of at least 250ft measured
The total cost for the gun, 2 mags, maple leaf arm and autobot was $185, with a little work it can be made to shoot very well. I saw a review by sniper mechanic over in the uk, which gave me the idea to try the A&K M24
For someone wishing to start sniping this a good deal and different from the VSR etc, there are not many upgrade parts available but it is more than adequate for general use. I am left handed so the lack of adaptation to left handed use easily stops me actually buying for myself though
If anyone has questions of things I missed just ask
