Hello all!

I am new to this forum :yup:

I played a couple of skirms with rented AK47's and decided to buy a gun on my own. After weeks of thinking, reading, balancing thoughts etc I decided on buying an A&K AEG SVD Dragunov. I know it is a choice which can be discussed till the end of time. But I read some good and some bad things. But went for my gut feeling. One of the mayer reasosn for buying this weapon is that I like the way of playing as a DMR, but still get the option to rush and storm due to the AEG.
I could've bought an ak47 and improved it, but budgetwise it was not my choice and I just like the looks and style of the SVD Dragunov.

But this is not the reason for my post, just some jibjab.

My gun will arrive in 2 to 4 weeks and I am trying to find some information on improvements. It needs to be noted that I am getting the newer A&K version, not the first one, but the improved 2nd version.

I am not a weekly player, so the gun will not get that much use, but it will surely be used :)

Which improvements should I be making anyway? Better hop-up chamber? Better inner barrel? Different spring? Steel piston catch?

I do not want to change to much or spent to much. I would like it to be durable. So above improvement are just things I read, but do not know how neccesary they are.

Someone knows some good tips? Maybe some polishing or lubricating? Some sealing with teflon tape?

Thanks in advance!

since it's a AEG, expect to get lumped in with them from time to time regardless if you use it as a DMR. which means having a weaker spring you can put in reliably. check with the field you will be playing on, dont assume.

1 big thing i'm worried about is this line i found for the newer ones.
"Gearbox: Custom Full Metal 4-gear Design"

untill you have it and people can dicect what parts are really in there, it's hard to give good advice. IF it shows up with the nice blue hop-up chamber, throw it out and get the black/red after market one.

the blue one is known for hooking issues and double feeding.

getting a better inner is always a good idea. largest part is to pick a fps range to build around and how you plan to use it.

short engagments (150 ft and less) get a .01 (bunch of brands out there that will work)
long engagment low fps (200-250 ft, 400fps /w.2) grab a PDI.08 or a ORGa.23
long engagment high fps (200-300ft, 500 fps /w .2) grab a pommy .03 or PDI .05

Hi Guys!

I am sorry for not introducing myself. I thought doing that in this post would be enough. I directly introduced myself in the correct place. (at least, I hope I did right :) )

Thank you all for the fast replies!!

Here are some images from internet which should correspondent with the gun I am getting:

As I see it now it would be wise to just start testing the gun first. Adjusting the hopper etc. Then do some skirms. But in the meanwhile order:
- better hop-up
- steel piston catch

Then after a few games I could open it, remove the grease and regrease the gun. Then replace the hop-up and piston catch.

I am not to afraid about being surrounded/trapped (that is what you mean by lumped in?). The field we play had some major buildings, so long and short range are needed. Spring rifles are not to good there...even boring, because the 'enemy' will just try a different route :) That is why I chose the AEG version. I can lie down, i can run, but still it has the feel of a sniper rifle, without the benefits, but also without the con's.

Is it wise to grease the barrel?

ya, either modle i wasn't thrilled with when i went looking. i wanna say it's vr 2 internal parts. the gear layout looks very very similer to my PKM internal's, and those were a&k gears.

steel piston catch, you want a full 15 steel tooth piston.
the hop-up, i think it proprietary.....

worst case, get a PCS nub and install a R-hop patch.

not what i ment by lumped in, what i ment is being placed with the other AEG's regardless. My sr-25 is like that.

Thank you! I am guite new in the world of aeg's, so I hope you could explain the parts you are talking off. Maybe a link to a webshop who sells it, so I've got some reference?

steel piston catch? (LIKE THIS?
full 15 steel tooth piston? LIKE THIS?
the hop-up from AirsoftPro.cz?
a PCS nub LIKE THIS?
a R-hop patch. HOME made?

Thank you!

I've gotta learn a lot, hope you people can help me with it :)

When looking on a website like RSOV.com my head starts spinning. So many things...what is a good choice (not looking for the best of the best, just good for a normal price)?

Yeah! Thank you very much! Feels like being at school again ;-) (Few, that is a long time ago...)

How can I find out which full 15 steel tooth piston I need?

I also find something about a piston missing the 2nd tooth. What is that about?

From the looks of it and from previous research it is supposedly a Classic Army clone. The gearbox looks very close to the pictures I can find of CA gearboxes. If you can find definate proof thay is is a CA clone I would just search for upgrades for that and go from there.

If it is a CA clone then I have some input on the subject as I own a CA SVD.

Piston: Long type SR25 piston
Gearset: SR25
Cylinder head: Version 7
Nozzle: AK
Short type motor
8mm bushings (I think, its been a while. other wise its 7mm)
Spring guide: version 3? (not 100% on that one any more, its been over 2 years sense I looked for anything on it.)

If its a 4 gear set, then that is a RS clone. which is a different story. But judging on A&Ks mag design I am sure its a CA clone.

One of the best ways to tell which one it is is by the mag.

This one is a Classic Army Style. (above)

While this one is the RS/CYMA mag.

I count 16 teeth on the one pictured. The nozzle and cylinder head may be a problem when trying tonrepla e it, although an inverted V6 CH may work. The tappet plate also appears proprietary in that respect. Everything else looks to be the standard spec.

From the looks of the pictured gearbox, it may experience clearance issues like M14s do. M14s cannot run the "reinforced" pistons because they catch on the second (spur) gear. Just be aware of that.

Also, as stated above, the V7 is the only gearbox so far that has it's own special reinforced pistons, everything else takes every type of piston you can find. (The exception is the V2.5 and every other 19 tooth rig)

All thank you for replying!

As soon as my rifle arrives I will try and find out how the insides look. I will take pictures and then go on from there. I think it is not wise to order replacementparts at this moment, because it is not sure I am buying the right pieces....

Thank you all for helping me, I will make pictures, post these and then we can continue :)

You can pick up an hopup bucking and barrel, those are universal. everything else is a different story.

Hello all!

The rifle is on its way! :)

In the meanwhile I am already looking for improvemend parts. What I would like to get as much accuracy as possible out of it. It may cost me some shooting speed. Also I would like to gain as much range as I can get out of it. Without doing to many big adjustments.

I know it should be a T3 gearbox that is inside it.

RSOV sells an hop up which should fit, they tried it:
'PPS' Hop-Up Chamber for A&K SVD AEG and Well L96 (MB01 , MB04 & MB05)
RSOV.com - Airsoft Gun & Tactical Gear Wholesale

This one I would like to install instead of the stock hop-up

They advice me a full steel 15 teeth piston:
'SHS' Blue Piston with full steel 15 teeth. LINK

Also the
'SHS' Steel Cylinder Head Ver.2 for M4 AEG (Red) LINK

Is this something you people would advise too?

I am also looking for some spare buckings and nubs. But there is sooooo many to chose from. Which should I be getting?

Would this be a good add-on?
'Madbull' 60 Degree Shark Accelerator Hopup Bucking (Red) LINK
