I tried doing a similar thing but on woodland Tigerstripe BDU's, and it is pretty damn hard to get the 550 cord in a grid fashion and get it to stay there with a needle and thread. I scrapped it and went the usual way with fishing net.
I wish you luck, your way more patient than I am from what I can tell, so I doub't you'd have a problem with it.
And when it comes to dyeing your burlap, Tac. Concealment's dye's are very nice.
