I say go for an SSG10 and and do minor upgrades instead, as nearly everything in an SSG10 is structurally very solid, and exactly as good or even better than upgrade parts.
If you spend $20-100 on an SSG10 in parts, you'll have something the same as $300-600 in parts in a BAR-10 or VSR-10. You may not spend that all at once, but in the future things will begin to break and cause issues and you will eventually eclipse the price of a mildly modified SSG10.

The A1 and A3 have only two differences, that being the stock and bolt handle. Unless you have $150 to spend for very little improvement I'd go for the A1. Having held many VSRs and an A3 I think that the A1 style is less likely to feel complicated or snagging on stuff when you're trying to go fast.

I'd get a new A1 and then from a different site I'd buy a Maple Leaf 2021 70° Autobot and some ArchWick/ASG, Action Army, or Slong mags as they're cheaper and hold more than SSG10 mags. Other than that, be sure to use .48g BBs.
