As I was back at the drawing board I got to thinking about some of the paintball guns that I use to play with. And this really made me think about something...... Why not use the same mechanics as a paintball gun, but adapt them to an airsoft rifle?

I mean the Tippmann 98 custom that I had is basically what I am thinking of doing. I mean all it would be like would be to take the hopper and put it below the rifle, and have the gas come in from under the system like normal. There is more than enough room in the gearbox area to run a macro line for the air, and then run that out the bottom of the grip in the SL9.

The only thing that I am not to sure about would be the trigger system. Was wondering what I would be able to use, and the easiest way to make the entire system fit into the space of the SL9 body.

So what I was thinking from you internet guru's is what do you think, and what can you see as a plan for the build. I am wanting to stay away from any and everything electronic. That way I don't have to worry about batteries, or any type of wiring.

So lets see some designs you guys can come up with. Help me build it and we may be able to work something out and get the "winner" one as well ;)

From what I see in this picture I think it would be fairly easy to adapt this type of paintball gun into what you're looking for. It may just involve reworking the trigger housing so that you can mount it to where you need it.
I'm not to familiar with paintball since I never owned one however from that image it looks like it would be fairly easy to do. Adapt the cylinder so the nozzle is for a airsoft gun diameter and come up with a housing to keep the parts in place without having to modify the inside of the gun with custom mounts. Modify the trigger assembly for fitment if you can't keep it in the exact same position.

Also, with creating a housing all you would have to do is slightly modify it to fit over types of guns. although at that point you pretty much have the "fusion" engine from polarstar.

That is what I was thinking as well.

Should be able to get the gas to route just behind the mag well. I am going to have to find a detailed picture of the valve for the rifle.

Another option that I was looking at, was an air rifle. I have seen more than a few that were semi auto, and the basic build of those should work as well. But again trying to find some schematics of them are proving to be very hard.

Yeah I am over there right now

I have been doing a ton of research, instead of my homework. I am hoping to have everything done and working by next season, so I do have some time, but I know I am going to have to do some tweeking and what not as well.

There are many air rifles that use just this system. And they are extremely consistent, so I am nit to worried about that part. And this way if something happens, it should be fairly easy to repair, but then again built like this you shouldn't have to worry about things breaking.

No I'm not worrying for breaking.
I'm thinking for the easiest way!;)
I have only one air gun the Weihrauch HW97k so I don't know how others work
But this system is similar to paintball markers perhaps we should look at this direction.

Correct, if you take a look at like the FX monsoon, Logon Solo.

These are just two multi-shot air rifles, that are great hunting rifles. And I have been trying to find some internal views of the rifle, and base the build off of those.

Besides, woogie IS a brilliant gun tech. ;)

I don't really think CO2 has a brand...

How high are you planning on going with this? The crimebuster has a system where it won't hold air once it gets above a certain pressure to maintain less-than-lethal velocities, is yours going to have the same, or are you going for air rifle, 300 meter shots? I know you said over 700 fps, but how much over?

Since it's going to have external rig you can adjust the fps by adjusting the pressure.
The more fps you have the longer flat flight path you'll have.
Woogie will use this as a DMR/sniper rifle so he will make it semi auto. If some one wants to put it to an assault body or in an LMG he can have it full auto and whatever fps he wants.

George nailed it.

I am going to still be building the rifle in the Star SL9 body that I have.

I am planning on trying to get the rifle up to the 700-800 fps range, just to make sure that the parts will hold up under that much power. I am not planning on running it that fast, just for a stress test. I do like the idea of the poppet valve though as well. And I can get one of those from a local store here in town, or could make one as well.

But I am getting a few drawings of the unit I am thinking of and will hopefully soon get some material to start some cutting. I am mainly looking at the tippman style of build, or something similar to that. I do have a guy locally that is coming up with a few ideas as well.

Here is what I am talking about guys!!!

Ok I have been thinking ...... yeah I know not again......

BUT

I have wanted to make a rifle that looks like an assult rifle, but is a boltie ;) So I can have a huge supply of ammo in one mag, and not have to worry about carying more ammo with me! And the body of this rifle may be able to let me do that as well.

Woogie do you have a real gun in mind?
If you want bolt action and thinking to use AEG mag it would be problem the feeding of bbs.
I agree the best solution is to make a semi auto gun
For the Geneth WA2000 I'm thinking to use AEG midcap as a base for the mag and I would only make the external shell.
