what does everybody use? im putting sorbo on the cylinder head so i think a aluminium head would be better as it will be set to semi auto and the more weight i can put behind the bb the better. everybody else keeps putting me off on other forums but as you lot are the experts il take your word for it. power goals are 450fps max on semi. also what does everyone think is the best piston head to use? sorry for the many questions.

Airborne? The sorbo is more for if I need the Aoc correcting and to help stop the shell cracking I don't think I've ever seen a gearbox that doesn't need the AOE sorting. Any particular bran of pistonhead? Thanks

Hmmm, what gearbox do you have?

Alot of people use POM or polymer material piston head as it is less stressful to the gearbox due to reduced weight.

But if you are playing semi only, then its really up to you. I have no experience with aluminum piston heads, but a consistent brand is Lonex. I'm sure SHS should be alright (if they have aluminum piston heads), but the QA is likely up in the air.

If polymer, I suggest Modify or Lonex. VS and SHS are good, but QA is slightly lower.

Btw, Sorbo is used for two things:

1) act as cushion to the force of piston head slapping on the cylinder head while reducing the noise produced

2) can aid it getting the right AOE for your piston/sector gear (instead of washers, etc.)

AOE is to adjust the angle at which the first sector tooth picks up the big tooth on the piston. This will reduce the stress on the big tooth and subsequent teeth on the piston head. If you don't adjust the AOE, you will get faster wear on the piston teeth.

It's a standard king arms gearbox shell. My site is limited to 450 semi auto for a dmr so can't go any higher. I'm going to radius the gearbox edges to help prevent it cracking. I was hoping the sorbo would counteract the stress on the front of the gearbox shell and I'd still have a nice heavy piston head for more kick. Thanks go the advice. I was looking at the lonex ones before.

Ahhh, that clears up why you want a 'metal' piston head. Then definitely do what you're planning. I suggest using 70D duro as well for your sorbo pad.

I'm guessing you'll have to do some type of permanent semi-auto mod?

Personally, I don't use metal piston heads because they can scratch the inside of a cylinder, and the scratches lead to inconsistencies in fps because of inconsistent compression. Also, heavier pistons lead to higher fps in closed cylinder situation.

Personally, I use Guarder poly heads in all my builds.
