Just got back from a game today and it was the first game with a sniper and I noticed that I wasnt doing so well (like not getting any kills and always got shot before I saw the enemy) and i couldnt really do much because i was constantly getting hit before I had the chance to shoot or just miss my targets due to bad overall control over my situation ( like getting all agitated when I saw my target and then miss) and i certanly know the missing wasnt due to the rifle(novritsch ssg24)(no hate please), since it shoots perfect and the scope is perfectly zeroed too, its just my tactics that are bad and was wondering if you guys could give me some tips and advice on it

Are you rushing your shots? That could be part of the problem. If that's not the case, and you are just getting out gunned, move out of AEG range and pick people off. Maybe try hiding and shoot people in the back? What exactly are you doing each time? I can't really help to much if I don't know what you are doing, but what best helped me when I began sniping is I would try to learn what killed me each time and learn from that.

Practice, practice, practice.
On my first game as a sniper the best I got was when I managed to aim at a guy through my scope, but couldn't take a shot. On my second game I took a shot but missed. I have improved quite a lot ever since as I learned how I can do things as a sniper. Just be patient and improve.

Wow..I should have read all those topics too! hahahaha...

Yeah, you can't run with the aeg's, you'll have to play your own game. You'll also have to anticipate your shots. Long range with a plastic BB takes time. Makes the game WAY tougher...but equally rewarding.

I would say to take your time. Learn the field that you play at and hang behind your aeg team mates. See where they get pinned down then slowly advance to where you can keep out of enemy aeg range them take them out slowly one at a time. This is generally how I start games. Failing that get a ghillie suit, wrap your sniper and find somewhere good near an objective where you can take your time with each shot.

Staying out of range is the biggest help though. Also move slowly in almost every action when you are shooting at someone. Movement is the biggest giveaway of your position unless you happed to be wearing fluorescent clothes

I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Piffffff... My first time out, i took out the entire enemy team with a UHC Super 9.... with open sights.... hand loading one round at a time.

P.S (yes i'm trolling a little) ...

P.P.S (but it's still a true story,the other guys were idiots :D )

I will give you this one major tip. It's the absolute secret to sniping , airsoft or otherwise. It can all be summed up in a single word

Patience

Other than that.

On the field, Wait, watch, listen, hide, flank, your team is both your shield and your responsablity.

When off the field. Read, shoot, shoot, shoot, tinker, sleep with your rifle (i literaly mean sleep, no funny stuff, and don't laugh, we have ALL done it accidently at least once).. Shoot some more.. shoot, learn camo, wear your gear around the house until its like wearing regular cloths,, shoot, shoot... Wait... did I remeber to say shoot?

So, yea, all this is ment to be on the funny side. Why, the worst thing an airsoft sniper can do is take themselves too seriously. That's a one way ticket to mediocrity. Sure, like any other sport you get out what you put in, but don't forget to have fun doing it, and if sniping stops being fun, stop doing it! You bought a nice rifle, don't give up until you have felt that satisfaction of nailing the guy that never saw it coming at 80m and saving your whole team, or enabling them to take the objective. And when that happens, say nothing and smile to yourself knowing YOU just won the whole game.

Last bit of advice. I could go on and on about tactics, field craft and gear, but the other guys have that covered. Its all here and it's important! There is one thing that a lot of us never talk about because it's hard to explain. This is going to sound weird but trust me. Most of us who have had any real success in this role have learned at some point that when you relax, and become "one" with the world around you, and start to "feel" the game as if all the players and all the elements of the enviroment are part of nature, part of you, then you will find much more success. Don't force things, follow your gut. You'll get shot a lot early on, thats ok, but your mind and body will learn from that. It's the way i would imagine the Force would feel like if we lived in a galaxy far far away.

Yes, i know i'm nuts, but most good airsoft snipers are a little nuts. Ask 1tone, Reiku, Plazma, AHP and some of the other old timers here. Come on!, you have to be a little nuts taking on 40 guys with 10,000 rounds of ammo shooting at you at 33 rps with crazy HPA rigs and all you got is 70 rounds, a bolt action and maybe a pistol!!! Airsoft sniping is both the hardest and easiest role to play. It's also the most dissapointing and the most rewarding role in the game. Learn to accept that and you'll be on the right track.

You hit right on the point with your last advice ArcAngel. Many wise men have described what you speak about. Miamoto Musashi called it Void, some call it empty mind, and more modern names include The Zone. The feeling of not thinking about a thing and making all the right choices.

You need to nurture the path to it though. Situational awareness, learning to leverage adrenaline, your own psychology are all very important parts that come through experience on the field and deliberate practice. Think about these things when you are in the game. Ask yourself: Can I judge the current state of the game? Can I form an mind image of the battlefield by using scattered pieces of information(shots fired, hits called, terrain configuration)? Can I fill in the missing information with assumptions? What happens when I react to those inputs?

Then there is the last piece of the puzzle, when you have your inputs, knowing that part of them are always based on assumptions, act on your instincts. Listen to the first thought in your mind. If you think that flank is open, go and take it without a second of delay, the moment that thought crosses your mind.

Again ArcAngel is right. Remember that it should be fun so have some fun doing it. And very now and again you will nail a shot that makes all the hits feel worth while.

My best moment was when I nailed a guy in the neck that thought he had found good cover behind a bunker. The bunker had small long windows on either side and I shot straight through them. I could literally feel his frustration and it made me oh so happy.
