Hey guys,

I'm Artemis, from the Netherlands. I've been lurking and reading posts on here for a couple days now. So why not join the fun?

An airsoft noob, besides having shot a springer pistol years ago I haven't really done any airsoft at all.

I'd LOVE to start with a sport, so airsoft naturally is my first thought.

I've been looking to get a M40A3 by APS since in my opinion it's the sexiest piece of rifle there is. If there are any other M40s that you can recommend I'd like to hear about them.

I'm not a military enthusiast, so please don't expect me to know all the abbreviations and signing signals used by the real McCoy haha!

I'm a crafty guy, I have a CNC machine which can work Alu, Wood, and plastic.(and of course all sorts of resins and fiberglass). Currently learning how to get the most out of it. Might use it to do mods. Besides that, I'm a photographer, and I've studied audio engineering, but neither are really useful on the field I guess.

Hope to learn a lot from you guys, and hope to have a decent input to your conversations.

Thanks guys!

Artemis.

Welcome to the forum! And welcome to Airsoft!

The skills you get from photography may be actually useful on the field. One may never know until you try! :D

How is it there in the Netherlands? Have you already found a field to play at?

Thank you!

The observational skill would be useful I guess.

I'm not totally sure about the road map of Airsoft here.
I'm still trying to find out all the laws and all that stuff before I play. I live near Amsterdam, so maybe some other Dutch player can recommend me some nice fields.
Ya, I'm not Dutch, but I'm German and I know that the rules in Germany are tough. let's hope they're not as bad where you live...

It doesn't seem that bad over here, very simple rules that more seem like common sense to me.
Welcome to the forum.

Always wanted a CNC machine but they are way out of my budget.

They're quite expensive indeed, but if you build it yourself you can be done for a reasonable amount. If you need to use one, or want to learn how to, you could do a search for local Hacker spaces, they often have awesome equipment you can use for reasonably cheap.
Welcome to the board.

I'd recommend NOT to buy the APS M40A3 since it's not a M40!
If you want a good looking and good performance M40 take a look at the Tanaka M40A1 (wood and ABS stock).
If you want the A3 or A5 only then you can install a real steel stock to the Tanaka with minimum mods! But RS stocks are kinda expensive!

The only true M40A5 in the market is the Ares M40A5 but Ares is known for the proprietary parts and poor internal quality.

If you want to buy that and fabricate your own stuff it may be the best solution for you!

The Ares rifle looks like a decent choice.
Going to take a look if I can get it in Europe easily.
Thanks a lot for your knowledge :)

Well it's rather expensive in EU .. Better buy it from Asia!
It will be much cheaper!

Also if you start making some parts for your gun, ask to see if there any interest here to make some more!

Welcome to the boards Artemis!
The photography skill will be VERY useful as a sniper. Observation is very important. Plus, you could slap a gopro on your future M40 and film...

As to the CNC machine, I'd rather have a 3D printer. They seem like more fun ;)

When buying from Asia there will be a whole bunch of import costs/taxes right? Comparing import costs to the average costs of rifles here it ends up about the same it seems, so I might as well make use of the availability of the Asian stores.
Any stores you personally recommend?

I'll probably end up making full CAD files(3D designs) for the parts, so making multiple parts(and revising them) would be child's play. :)
Welcome to ASF,

Waar in nederland zit je? :D

Man i miss my CAD drawing days. The things you could do!

Thanks,

Ik woon in Haarlem. Ik ben nog niet ingeschreven, ben nog een beetje aan het sparen voor alles.
Well almost all of the Asian shops are OK, EHobbyasia, Redwolf, Airsoft Global....

I've had good experiences with almost all of them.

With the import tax and shipping, it's still worth the fuss of buying from there.
The Eu shops are too expensive.

I'll be sure to read a lot while I'm on here.

"and with your craftiness you should fit right into the smart people that I can't understand group."

I will try my best to make some guides that are easy for everyone to understand.
