Barrett M107 Build

I am making myself a replica Barrett M107 Bolt action Airsoft Rifle. As of right now I'm in the designing stage. Before I mill or lathe anything out, however, I need the internals. Problem: I don't know what the best internals are, and I really want the best I can get for my budget.

I have been told to look for Laylax, and so far I believe I will be using the Laylax PSS10 190SP Spring for VSR10(this is not for field play, solely for play with friends/recreational target shooting) I want the 600FPS, and I know it will not be easy to pull.

For the barrel I was thinking of using the Prometheus EG Precision Inner Barrel for TM M14 (500mm) because I have heard prometheus is good and I need a 500mm barrel.

I am planning on ordering parts from Airsoft GI(http://www.airsoftgi.com/) so this brings my total to $91. I still need hop-up and a piston(I was planning on making the cylinder myself, as it seems quite simple and I have access to a CNC lathe). I have 12 inches(I could probably push it to 15 inches) in which to fit the spring, piston, cylinder, and hop-up.

My budget is $200. This is a rough budget, I could probably got to around $225. So with what I already have around $109 left for the hop-up and piston. I need a full hop-up, and I do not plan on buying a boneyard gun. The reason I am asking for help is I do not know much about what is best for the internals of an airsoft rifle, and I am looking for good accuracy, range, and power and do not wish to get a bad part and have to buy another.

I will update this thread with reports and pictures of my progress when I get into the building stages.

Thank you!:)

P.S. If this is the wrong place to post this I apologize, it seemed like the best out of the options I had.

It would be hard for him with that low of a budget to make it semi-auto I would think.
This, and I wanted to keep it as a simple spring rifle for my first build. My second build... Well I will cross that bridge when I get over this one.
All I need right now is a good hopup and piston, possibly even just a piston head
so a happy day today! got some mail that pleased me quite a bit, my tax return, and a bank statement. I now know that i have quite a bit more cash than i thought. my original budget was based off what i have in my wallet, as i thought i had nothing in the bank. yea... i was wrong about that one.>:D

any way im back for some help... i was looking to use mostly VSR10 internals... but all the barrels are waaaay to short, and ive read that the PDI hop up i was gonna use is prone to failure. im still wanting to use either a 190 or 170 spring. i also plan to get an IR-hop from HS5 armory.

so my dilemma is barrel, hop up chamber, bucking, cylinder, and piston, as all these were sorta blown out of the water when i read about the hop up failing. any suggestions? any place that i can start looking? my budget is around $250-$300. and the barrel needs to be a minimum of 500mm(id prefer a Prometheus 6.03 TBB)
If you're still going for VSR internal then you should build the M99, perhaps you could buy a broken one for cheap and skip the fabricating process!

Wolf
the whole point of this project kind of is the fabricating:yup:
Then you probably won't have any trouble modifying the AEG barrel so that it fits the VSR-10 chamber. That will also cut down on costs a bit for you.
is there little room for error on this?
Not really, all that's needed is the little ring cut around and some flat spots for the grub screws. It's hard to cut steel though; most people don't have anything that can get the job done right.
hacksaw, bandsaw, lathe, pipe cutter... take your pick:)
I would slap a vsr or L96 into a M107 body.....
thats the general idea, except i dont want stock parts, and im making the entire body, so i need the internals first. which is what im working on now.
I'm just not a fan of the PDI chamber but I think you should try it with an M4 chamber and PRothemus barrel, why? Because the M4 chamber seems very easy to upgrade to an ER-hop, and it has a simple design with a long arm so a flat nub can be used too. Of course Cheeseman is more qualified than me to say this considering he does these as a job :p but I think you should try it. I would.
this would allow me a longer barrel as well... as long as its between 500mm and say... 600mm(maybe a bit more) ill be good. i already have the barrel a bit on the short side so longer wont actually hurt at all. even by 100mm. would i have to use an M4 piston and cylinder then too?
What's the difference between that and any other M4 hop-up? As Cheese Man said, you'll probably have to do some modding for it to work with a VSR-10 cylinder.
just making sure it was right, and wouldnt break on me.
That should work just fine.
would i be able to use an M4 piston and still use the spring? or should i stick with a VSR piston and if i cant manufacture a good enough cylinder just try to mod a VSR one?
What are you planning on doing exactly? Will it be VSR-10 internals with an M4 hop-up unit and then the body made by you?
pretty much yeah.
Interesting. Looking forward to seeing how everything turns out; best of luck.
between school being over in less than a month, and me not supposed to be working on this in class ive had to lower my expectations on how the final outcome will look... sadly... unless i take the summer to plan and get parts.
