Ok, I realize that one of the rules is no talking about fight club, or anything 550+ fps, but why is that? (the second one, not the first) I took a trip to hawaii, and brought my vsr with me to look at the airsoft shops. When I talked to the shop owners, they said there were no fps limits in hawaii, but you must wear a full face mask. Also they let me pull back their (supposedly) 700 fps spring sniper rifle, and it was actually pretty smooth! anyways, why can't we talk about it if some places allow it?

it's a majority thing, and in a lot of places tighter restrictions like Ireland of 1j muzzle energy limit.

500 fps is the safe mark in most areas so whats what the rules are.

I realize, but what if someone lives in Hawaii, and wants to talk about how bbs are affected 550 fps and above? I guess my question is: why is it FORBIDDEN?

I don't really know why simple TALK is forbidden (like innocent questions like this one), I think advice on how to mod a gun over 550 fps is. .3 gram balls of plastic flying at your face at a velocity of over 550 fps is VERY dangerous. I think that's the main reason why.

It is a safety concern and there is no reason to be talking about high fps set ups like that. You got kids out there that would read a thread about 700 fps set ups, mimic it, and go out to their local field, or worse, backyard and start bopping people in the face with it. Just something we have in place here as a guideline to prevent dangerous play. If you really have questions about high fps set ups like that, I am sure there are several members here that would be more than happy to help answer any questions via PM.

i just figure that there are some far distances that you may be able to achieve with an er hop, and a high fps. i realize that a high fps does not equal range, but through my travels, I have noticed that er hop goes well with high fps. and I also have thought of a way that one might be able to beat the chrono tests at fields with a simple trick, but I'm not going to discuss that here, THAT is just asking for trouble....

Because...

1: It is dangerous.
2: It is bad for your gun.
3: Your accuracy is more then likely going to go to garbage.
4: Did i say it was dangerous?
5: Some real steel firearms fire at 700 fps. I dont remember which ones

This is an INTERNATIONAL forum and most countries have laws and rules that prohibit such.

If you have read the Airsoft Trajectory Project, and a few of the threads related to FPS on the board here. You would know that FPS has diminishing returns when you get past 500.

The nature of this forum is upgrades, and we all know what its like to be shot with a high powered gun.

So it's bad form to talk about how to upgrade a gun to very very high levels, because the number one rule in airsoft is safety.

+++++----"""To have a website holding the information about the how to make the high powered gun that caused some kid to be on the news about a gun maming someone is bad attention for this website."""----+++++

I understand the safety issue, but if a player from hawaii wants to talk about higher fps limits, i guess he would message a more experienced member about it? and what if the member doesn't know? there is a woman on here who goes by the name of libelle, and she has a high powered aug that's in the 500s range, would they talk to her as well?

My hunting 22 with hunting grade 22 shotgun ammunition is fired at 800 FPS; too close to a real rifle for my liking. It simply isn't needed, it would be like if on a real steel forum you showed how to corrode your barrel so it blows up in your face and kills everyone around you. Or the way you can wedge a sparkler (it isn't actually a sparkler, I just don't want to give anyone an idea) into the barrel of an AR-15 (isn't an AR-15 either) and make a IED.

A player from Hawaii shouldn't care about higher FPSes, just by this conversation they should know that higher FPS doesn't get you anywhere. Even with an ER Hop, Just about 525 FPS should do you just fine. The reason we don't discuss higher FPSes is because they are useless, and only inflict pain. They wreck your gun and get you no where. I will assume if a Hawaiian comes onto the forum and sees that no one is discussing high FPSes, then they will assume that high FPSes arent good and will go tell their friends.

This^
It just eliminates many possible issues that could cause problems for this forum to continue to operate on the world wide web.
Some countries have very low fps standards for what constitutes a fire arm.
It is a pro-active way of heading off possible legal issues.

It also makes sense on all the levels brought up by others who post in this thread.

I don't think talk over 550FPS is something terrible, there's plenty of other applications that people might need an airsoft rifle for that can shoot that high. For instance personally if I had the cash to blow I would love to see how far I could push some aftermarket parts until they implode. But I do see the safety concerns about talking above it since you might have the one teenager that stumbles on the thread and takes it to a field that lacks a chrono.

I think you should be able to talk about whatever you want, I just think that it would make every noob think that if your gun wasn't atleast 550 FPS then it wouldn't make 50 yards, because FPS superstitions are already as, to be quite frank, dumb enough already. I believe that talk wouldn't hurt, but I believe that it would quickly escalate into people shooting other people and then someone having a BB lodged into them and the news blaming this site.

The talk of 550 FPS+ is so not needed that I believe the inclusion of it would just hurt the forum, and the forums rep.

Well as you all said a 700fps gun doesn't offer you anything, it can be worse than a 550fps.

Plus I see where this conversation is going.... So I'll close this thread.
