What's the best full metal BASR Type 96 I could get for under or close to $300? I am looking to get one and upgrade it with the best parts I can get, I was thinking UTG but I have seen a few reviews and things seem to break on their MK96. I looked at Tanaka and Maruzen but they are a bit pricey(however I will pay that if I must), and also looked at Tokyo Marui but wasn't sure of the quality. Really I just don't want the parts I can't upgrade to break to easily, especially under the higher stress of shooting harder.

Any input and opinions are appreciated and accepted with an open mind! Thank you in advance, and I'll probably thank you after too!!

i would get a well or utg and upgrade it. but if you plan to cap out at 300, then you are probably better off with the maruzen that is unupgraded, I personally wouldnt get the TM, they are awsome but parts are harder to come by.
I saw that most parts did not include TM, mostly Maruzen and/or UTG. I'll look at the Maruzen, Thanks!!

EDIT: This is the Maruzen I am looking at:

Any opinions on it? Also, I can't really tell, but is the magazine in or not?

My opinion is that you should get the clone and spend the extra money on upgrades. Also, where can you get a Maruzen anymore, aren't they getting a little harder to find (unless over seas maybe?)? Really though, you can make a UTG Type 96 very good with a lot of home mods and very few actual upgrade parts.

So I have decided to get the UTG MK96(http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=2111)

and plan on using this upgrade list(Taken from fuzzywolly's "So You Want to Buy a L96 Clone" thread)

First Upgrade Purchases
1. PDI hop up chamber: allows use of aeg barrels and buckings
2. AEG tightbore barrel (6.03mm to 6.05mm recommended.) Stock barrel length is 499mm, but a 509mm barrel will suffice if the end cap is removed. A flash hider will provide cover for the small bit of barrel that is extended.
3. Soft bucking and nubbing (possibly polar stars concave spacer--is a nubbing)
4. Heavy weight bbs (madbulls are nice)
5. PDI repair kit: Cheap kit, with spare pieces for PDI hop up unit.

Second Upgrade Purchases
1. Cylinder head, spring guide, cylinder, and piston and accuracy cup. I prefer laylax parts but PDI parts are also very high quality.
-Note: the cylinder being the most expensive is not necessary with the purchase of the spring guide, piston, and cylinder head. The stock cylinder will suffice just fine for now.
2. Trigger sear and piston sear. Although, the stock sears held up extremely fine, and show no signs of wear after three years of use.

Third Upgrade Purchases
1. Zero trigger
2. If not bought yet, a teflon cylinder
3. Heavier spring (note how other internal parts were upgraded before the spring was. This is very important

Fourth upgrade purchases
1. Flash hider adapter
2. Flash hider
3. New bolt handle

What I Have(if I can get something better I would greatly appreciate if you would alert me to that:) )
First Upgrade Purchases
1. PDI Hop-Up Chamber (http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/PDI_Hop_Up_Chamber_Type_96_p/66229.htm)

2. Prometheus EG Precision Inner Barrel 550mm (I know this is very long but I want to put on a suppressor style barrel extension, I do not know if it will fit though) (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=31_55&products_id=6073)

3. This is where I need some help...

4. Madbull .40g BBs (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_44_194&products_id=4713)

5. PDI Repair Kit (http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/PDI_Repair_Kit_for_APS2_Type96_L96_airsoft_p/77835.htm)

Second Upgrade Purchases:
1.Cylinder Head: Laylax Type 96 Cylinder Head (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=362_364&products_id=10185)

Spring Guide: Laylax Smooth Spring Guide(http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/Laylax_Type_96_Smooth_Spring_Guide_7_mm_9_mm_p/58212.htm)

Cylinder: Laylax Teflon Cylinder(http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=362_364&products_id=6661)

Piston: Laylax Element Piston (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=362_364&products_id=6660)

Accuracy Cup: I am not entirely sure what this is or where to find it...

2. PDI Trigger Sear (http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/PDI_Trigger_Sear_Type_96_p/66234.htm)

PDI Piston Sear (http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/PDI_Type_96_Piston_Sear_p/64023.htm)

Third Upgrade Purchases:
1. Laylax Zero Trigger (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=362_364&products_id=10185)

2. Done

3. Laylax 210SP Spring (or should I go with the 190?) (http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=362_364&products_id=10185)

Fourth Upgrade Purchases:
1. Prefer a Suppressor Style Extension(Not entirely sure how long it needs to be)

2. See 1

3. Guarder Type 96 Steel Bolt Handle (http://www.airsoftatlanta.com/Guarder_Type_96_L96_Steel_Bolt_Handle_New_Type_p/47891.htm)

I'd say get a Well MB01, it's the same gun, but the orange tip is screwed onto threads within the barrel while the UTG has an orange tip on the outside of the barrel that you'll probably have to pry off with pliers.

I'd recommend getting a 6.03 barrel because it's not too tight, but the bore isn't too big and it's been proven to be the best for snipers. Don't worry about the barrel length, I have a 650mm on my L96 and it's fine. If you want a 509mm for a great deal buy it here, it's where I got mine (A madbull ver II for $29.95, what a steal!)
http://www.ansgear.com/Madbull_Black_Python_Tight_Bore_Barrel_M16_p/mb-509mm-m16-ib.htm

Or you could get a PSG barrel which is 590mm for the same price:
http://www.ansgear.com/Madbull_Black_Python_Tight_Bore_Barrel_PSG1_p/mb-590mm-psg1-ib.htm

As for a spring get a M170 sniper spring, that will preform the best without a chance of ruining internals and if you get the right upgrades, you could boost your snipers fps from 530-550, depending on how well your gun is upgraded. A M190 will go over 550 fps limits and a 210...just don't. Recently I had my gun chronoed at 490 consistently and all I had at the time was a metal trigger box, a M170 spring, and an aluminum spring guide and piston. If your L96 has more than that, you should be able to hit 530-550 easily.

I've also heard that a hard bucking is good for a PDI hop-up.

For an L96, a silencer that is from 8-9 inches is pretty good. It's all personal preference. I prefer a 9 inch (I made it) but I also need it to cover my 650mm barrel

You may also want to buy some better spacers for your barrel, it improves accuracy if you use a longer barrel.

I hope this helps and btw, if you're getting rid of or have no need of any of the old internals that you replace, I'll be happy to take them off your hands =D

Thanks! if you have any suggestions for buckings id appreciate it! Also do spacers just help keep the inner barrel steady? Also will the Well take the same upgrade parts?

I don't actually use a pdi hop up, so I don't really know where you could get a bucking for the best deal, but I'm sure you could look here and find plenty of upgrade parts that you may need at pretty good prices:

Yes, spacers do keep the barrel a lot more steady than the crappy foam spacers that come with the gun, but you can also make your own if you know how to do it and that would save you $20

The Well and UTG models are the same exact gun, but, as far as I know, the Well has a orange cap with threads so it can be easily be removed while the UTG does not. Other than that the only differences are the boxes they come in.
