Boneyard Guns?

1886 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  metallicafatcat
So, looking around on a site* and I found a BAR 10 in the boneyard, for 45$! Since I don't leave guns stock, some broken internals are fine... but this seems like too good of a deal. Do you think their could be more messed up than "Non-Functional (Jamming/trigger Issues)"? Or probably purely internal. The "NO NO NO RETURN's" kinda gets me, cause what if their's something more major going on? Like broken reciever or something bad.

Anyone have experience with boneyards?

*I'd tell you the site, but I'd rather you don't steal it.

Most of the time they will come slam firing or something like that.

If you plan on upgrading everything on it anyway, why not. Could turn out to be a good buy.
Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. But "jamming/trigger issues" seems exactly like that. Slam firing, and possibly a destroyed inner barrel (which should be the first thing to upgrade)... But eh... I don't know, for $50 more you could get it new, or some upgraded sears. Think I should go Zero Trigger at around 500-550 fps, or go the cheap route and get some better sears?
If you are planning on going up to 500 fps, and you have the funds to get the zero trigger..... I would say get the trigger/piston combo so you know they will work together.

Zero trigger without a doubt. They can be had for around $145 (depending on site) in the states now. Great deal compared to what they used to cost.

EDIT: Beat me to it Woogie. You win this round.

Funds will be tricky, but do-able... eventually. Is it cost effective to go for some better sears, then get the money to get the Zero Trigger later? Or just save the money and wait?

Save the cash. Unless you are able to sell your sears later on, its a waste of money. (Speaking from first hand experience.)

And yeah...I know woogie. ::)
Darn straight you know ;) lol

All depends on what is wrong with the rifle. I bought one that was just missing a screw for the trigger unit. All I had to do was put one in and it was good to go. And if it is the trigger mech that has gone out on it, you can get a stock trigger group over on evike for $30.
Then you add in shipping so 90$ versus 99$ for the gun... Really depends, cause it can be useless going for a Boneyard gun, but can be amazing, like in your case.

Also, I don't have all the funds right now... It's a work in progress ;) So seems silly to buy parts that I will need to upgrade eventually, and get someones beat up gun. I think I might go for the new one...
The one time I purchased from a boneyard I got very lucky. I purchased a AW .338 (well g96d) for like 90$ shipped. All that was wrong with it was the magazine was ruined. Once I fixed the magazine, it shot like 577 FPS.

My purchase was made from Airsplat. But remember when looking through the airsplat boneyard, their guns are not neccessarily still in stock. And while the picture is accurate as is the description, the instock status is not. You have to call in and ask.
Right. Cause they only have one broken gun in that way. That's a good heads up though.
Unfortunately, the companies have smartened up and are charging more than ever now because so many techs want them to turn them for cheap profit.
