Hi everyone,
I am thinking to get me a different kind of sniper/DMR platform from the Tanaka M40A1 platform that I have.

I understand this might fall more into the DMR category, because of the various features I'd like to have..but I know this place comes from higher standards of marksmanship and my question is going to get a lot of great feedback, regardless (plus this forum is a holy grail for DMR roles, too, it seems!).

First off let me tell you I own a G&P WOC SR-15 GBB rifle, this might shift your considerations off some products for the sake of compatibility between this rifle and my future DMR platform (sharing some pieces or being able to intercharge some would be a plus).

I am looking for the following features in my new rifle:
1. It can be any emulation of a 5.56 or 7.62 platform, not a .50 cal. Suitable types are: SR-25, M110, SPR, SCAR-H etc.
2. It must have blowback
3. It must be able to use my HPA rig, either through magazine tap or through a Polastar build
4. It can be either bolt action, semi-auto or semi/full type. I already know it might come down to semi auto only to be able to assess points 1,2 and 3 and to be in compliance with field limits for higher-powered DMRs
5. Its internals must be able to respect and honor the higher quality of consistency that my HPA rig delivers..no point in having 1 FPS max fluctuations in the rig if the internals do not work for consistency
6. Can be gas operated, P* operated or any hybrid, as long as steps 1-5 are respected.
7. Optional but very welcome: the rifle would need to have every function replicating the behavior of its real steel counterpart (bolt catch, handles etc..) as much as possible.

Feel free to give me your opinion and - if you think nothing will ever outclass the accuracy of a carefully upgraded Tanaka M40A1 with a dual-reg HPA rig..well, feel free to tell me so ;)

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Polar Star is your best option, but the G&P WOC can be very good if you take care of it, tap the mags, and make sure you upgrade the internals properly. Your other option would be a classic rifle, I know the kokusai BV rifles are excellent, especially if they are booster-tuned, as well as the kokusai crimebuster engine. If you can get one of those, it can be dropped into just about any of the rifles you named above with a little custom work to the gearbox.

The P* has no blowback though, so if that is a killer then, well, you are out of luck there.

Your mandate of Blow-back takes the P* off the table, so i would say a decently upgraded M14 is in order. if you relent on the issue of blow-back for the sake of a P*'s consistency, i would say go with a SR-25

Thanks guys..I just added point 7, which I had forgot.. - sadly the SR-15 GBB got me so addicted to blowback that it feels kinda half-good to have a NBB rifle..but I understand it puts things under many, many limits..

The G&P WOC I own is already incredibly consistent for a rifle that is stock and is intended as a primary weapon in the tactical carbine role..so I was thinking to outclass that while still keeping it on the semi auto, DMR side..

Would any GBB long carbine, like G&P WOC SR-25 or even let's say a WE SCAR or M14, work with a tapped mag and still deliver internals (upgraded, maybe) up to par with what a Bolt action rifle like the Tanaka "can become" when you shed $1000 on it? :)

Ah, the gear aquisition syndrome! :)

That definatly takes any P* build off the table then. Yes, I believe any upgraded long rifle running on HPA can match a BASR. It would take more work and higher quality parts, but the biggest limitations in airsoft is the ammo at the upper end, not the platform.

I'd say Daytona Gun, escort based GBB engine that Jusin from DG can fit in ANY gun!
Here's a semi only version of the engine in the G&P XM110

I've talked to tnkrizzo on classicairsoft about it and a new version of it will be released at some point, and it will be most like drop in fit on some guns.
I'll probably will install one in my G&P XM110!

Wolfgeorge, you got me interested, VERY interested, on that one! First off, the XM110 is one of the possible choices in my list, second it has blowback, it's a G&P so some parts might work well with my SR-15 (even a minimal cross-compatibility would save me lots of trouble).

I don't get what does the mod do, to the rifle itself? Thanks!

The G&P XM110 is an AEG, DG makes conversion GBB kits. DG most common kit is the kit for AK47. Also DG kits run on external air source.

The kit for XM110 isn't out yet, it will take a few months, tnkrizzo told there are quite a few orders to be fulfilled before this one be released.
You'll also need the base/donor gun and the kit, tnkrizzo told me it will probably cost around $475.
The gun I bought from Safarairsoft was the G&P XM110, now they still have the carbine version, if you want the full version I have fount one more... Probably the last available!

Another alternative , though you didn't mentioned it above is the SVD, WE released the AceVD a few weeks ago and Real Sword will realease theirs in few months.
There are very few GBB SVD out there!

Thanks guys, I am going to pass this info to my cousin who is looking into an M87 GBBR, maybe - if Ares does not come out with its planned version - DG is a possibility.

Is there a web site or store front, PR guy or whatever "official place" for this Daytona Gun mod? I searched everywhere and all I can find is tons of post stating that DG is officially closed for various bankrupt-like problems with non-complying customers.. (an example).

From my understanding DaytonaGun still doing business but only on orders, there's no official site, the US distributor is tnkrizzo and his site is here: http://www.tnkguns.com/.
There's not DMR kit available yet, only M249, AK and M4.

I don't trust DG but I do trust tnkrizzo! I wouldn't do business with DG directly, they haven't the best reputation so is and the previous distributor OPForce.

Cheers

..no reply yet..seems to be getting pretty common these days..anyway:

I am getting addicted to the SR-25 and M110 ideas, the compatibility with my SR-15 would be a great plus..

Do you think I could be able to build an M110 by buying different parts and then assemble them? So far noone seems to build an SR-25 or M110 GBB..

Here is tnkrizzo's reply:

The SR25 will be available later this year. At this time, it has not been put to machining/demo stage. I HAVE had several Ares SR's done and built, but the G&P XM110 receiver is much better and will be the one that we use for such a system.

Lucky me I already have a G&P XM110...!
if you want I know one last G&P.

Wolf
I might! How close to the real thing is it externally? Will the bolt catch and other functions still work (if they are there) with the DG kit?

I have no knowledge of AEGs since I only used and seen gas stuff..so I am not sure how much of that electric engine is going to translate into non realistic parts to accept and contain the various stranger elements (battery, cables, gears and so on)

Nope the bolt catch doesn't function and it's not the most realistic when compared to the real one, also the G&P was only available in black.
The real one is called "M110" the G&P is the XM110, also the real one has ambi fire selector the G&P doesn't.

Real M110

The G&P ...

But it's very well built, it's nicer than the Ares version I must say.
The Ares also is the XM 110 though

Darn, it sure is nice but I have a bad thing for gears and AEGs, mostly I am a frustrated gun enthusiast who lives in a country where you can't own tactical carbines out of the blue nor can you use them with discipline, so I need to put my hands on things that at least look the closest and behave the most similar..

I understand most of you into serious sport/gaming sides of airsoft will laugh at me, but I have no other way to practice handling and discipline with the rifle at the moment ;)

The M40A1 is giving me great satisfaction these days and I am starting to fear that nothing will ever come close to the accuracy and CRAZY PSI levels (I am talking long range steel BBs target shooting, not gaming etc.)..the idea of practicing target shooting at 260ft with a super neat looking rifle that can't sustain longer ranges kinda gives me the creeps..

..but G&P just placed some pre-orders for their WOC GBB SPR and other amazing stuff ;) aaah.
