Stating the obvious, there are a few main types of secondary's to carry round with you, primarily pistols although some also use shotguns and machine guns.

Which ones do you guys prefer and why?

Personally is see the advantages of pistols that they are small and can be easily concealed, also adding less weight, unfortunately as the gas doesn't work well in winter, you'd be stuck with an AEP which I've been gold are pretty rubbish.

Shotguns are used but I don't know why, they're way to big and heavy in my opinion, and I don't see the advantage compared to an SMG or Pistol (correct me if I'm wrong) perhaps reliability?

SMGs especially MP5s or Uzis are what I find appealing, as you need yo reload less than a pistol and can just spam the enemy, which is often needed:

I would say that the main reason for pulling out a secondary is if targets are approaching too close,if you are retreating or you are being rushed, in these situations using a SMG would really help, as you can just spray at them :D

PS- I understand shotguns are quiter but if you are still hidden secondary's are rarely needed unless you are being approached.

I own and use all the options listed, as well as compact grenade launchers (obviously not at the same time). All have advantages, all have disadvantages.

My fallback is a GBBP any time I just don't feel like getting kitted up. A drop leg keeps it secure and out of the way unless I absolutely need it or someone else has a gun breakdown on the field. Down side? Low magazine volume means it is a true arm of last resort.

On fields with sniper MED's, low to medium CQB elements but high environmental obstacles (trees and brush) I will opt for an SMG. Sometimes I use an MP5K AEG, rarely a GBB MP7. The MP5K takes some getting used to while carrying a long gun but one match is all it takes to sort it out. The major downside is my particular MP5K is loud as hell and has a ROF greater than most fields allow.

The shotgun (a gas M500 with 5 BB's per shot) is more of a novelty. In heavy CQB it is fun but paired up with a sniper makes for too great a break in coverable ranges. The 50-100ft range ends up as an engagement gap.

Grenade launchers with shower shells have mixed effectiveness which can be heightened with CO2 shells. The down side normal shells end up so weak many people don't even feel the hit or consider it a ricochet. Changing the shells also takes time, so they are really one shot wonders.

The main one I use? None of these. I ended up moving toward a platform lighter than a GBBP + 2 mags, has equal range to most AEG's, has full auto capability and utilizes magazines common to my squad. It's a composite bodied, lipo powered M4 styled like an MP5 with high end internals.

I like the pistol for secondary because its small but during winter I use a M16. I use a 1911 gas blowback for a pistol secondary and sometimes I carry both on me because I don't always like going up aganst a AEG with a (what feels like) tinny little pistol. I use the pistol for one to three but four or more I use a M16.

I have used a pistol (gbb) and a SMG as my secondary before and they were great. But anymore with all the people at my field not calling their hits, I use my a ghk ak74 sbr. 50rd magazine Co2 powered. I hate the weight but it is worth it. It will make them call there bloody hits :)

I always have a pistol on my rig. BUT, for longer games at my local field, I will run with a shotgun (UTG Tri-shot) on my back in a scabbard. Its actually extremely useful when I end up running with a squad as a primary for situations when im way to close for my rifle. And I find it faar more reliable, and gives me just a bit more range and firepower, over my pistol. However, my pistol is still great when all else fails.

I actually carry a a stuff sack an set the pistol i it w/ a coord so if it falls out (unlikely) I won't lose it.

I use a KWA 93R. I may HPA tap it soon so I can actually go full auto consistently and r-Hop it to get it out too 150+ ft.
