Now to business: I have a design for an incredibly simple HPA system (basic blow back with a heavy bolt) & I want to build a 1 joule DMR around that & the principles of design behind the VSS (a compact, integrally suppressed rifle using very heavy ammunition) as the areas I currently play in have enough greenery for my friends to use as cover & ever-changing crosswinds which are completely unpredictable at times.
I want to base the rifle on the AK74u & I have a personal design for the suppressor, I'm considering using the TK twist barrel but this is my first build & I have no idea what kind of hop to use (I'm thinking I may have to build one my self but we shall see).
- does anyone have any experience with a good AK74u AEG (or GBB that can take AEG magazines)?
- has anyone here tested the TK twist barrel?
- has anyone here ever built their own HPA rig?
- has anyone here made their own hop up (or parts there of)?
any advice you guys can share would be wonderful, I'm sorry if this is too rambling or nonsensical but you guys are the place I have found half the information I have been looking for.

thanks

TK twist barrels are bs
blast, everything I had read previously suggested that one would be ideal for this project, what kind of barrel do you recommend/have you had the most success with?

As for the rest I know careful has made his own hop and can probably answer most of your questions. Speaking of careful, where has he gone?
I shall look around, see if I can glean anything from previous posts.

No... I don't think there is a mixup. He used to be pretty active on the forum, but like everyone life caught up with him. He actually is really good about responding. I chatted with him last night.

I'm going to call BS on Southclaw. lol. TK twists are still a bit of a wild card in the airsoft world. However people have had very good results with them under 350 fps. With all the theories floating around about bbs "floating on a cushion of air" and all that crap, the concept of the TK twist still seems valid to me. Routing air around the bb to stabilize it and prevent it from contacting the barrel more than is absolutely necessary.

Now when it comes down to it, can you get the same or even better performance out of a different setup? Maybe. Is the concept a marketing hoax? I don't think so.

Right now the best option in my opinion is a lapped, rhopped PDI 6.05 or an EDGI 6.01. However I don't think you will be disappointed in a TK Twist if you set it up right.

Sneaktheif, true I totally forgot about fps below 350. Whoops! Sorry for the misinformation Lark, I just couldn't remember a side by side test done with the TK barrel that showed any improvement. But as Sneaktheif pointed out they do help with an fps below 350.

Is an is the r-hop the best for heavy-weight bb's & low velocity? I know nothing about it.
Part of my design (subject to change) is that the air nozzle will be open at the bottom only to direct airflow to increase the backspin on the bb. I'll likely make one nozzle like that & a normal one too so I can swap the around & see what works.

Well, if you are actually using the air to create backspin, I don't really see why you need a n r-hop. I think you could probably achieve the same results with your "air-backspin" plan, and, say, a flathop.
