What about a DIY section?

I did just make a post in the "others" section... But what about having a section that is just on the DIY on the guns?

I know that may be had to break down ... but what about a M700 inner board, an L96 inner board, shotgun, pistol, and others.

Would probably clean up alot of the boards or at least keep some of the "how do I make my rifle shoot faster and kill people from 500' away?" type questions.

What exactly is DIY? If you're talking about how to upgrade/modify weapons, we pretty much have almost every weapon out there and a nice two post long sticky with everything under the sun to do for it. The problem is the UTG Sniper that just got into the sport last week doesn't have time to search or even post in the correct area, he wants fast results now, and wants it to be as simple as you asking him for his Credit Card info and it being on his door step next day.

Even if we made a "Master Thread" about all the rifles, the sections would still get cluttered by this.

DIY---- Do It Yourself

Yeah didn't think about that Mosin.. Really liked the credit card example.

Figured it would be something ot bring up....

What there needs to be is an "Auto Placement" for the threads

Good idea though. In a perfect world it would work, and make this board 10 times more effective. But I think it's more fun making fun of people who are lazy and referring them to the great powers of "Google".

Sorry to necropost, but how about you make a specific DIY sub-section for each of the major rifle sections? Just make 1 pinned post for each gun in that section. If we get one person for each gun who knows their gun really well and has done mods on it in the past, then have them make a single post with as many DIY mods that they can think of for that specific gun. Also if you leave the threads open members can ask specific questions on each DIY so that each thread will become more detailed with time and possibly get even more mods that you can do.

For example you could find your specific guns DIY like this:
1) Click on the Major section your gun is in. Example- Maruzen
2) Click on the DIY sub-section.
3) Click on your specific guns DIY pinned post. Example- Type96

Now like you said the credit card noobs won't usually get that far anyway. However those of us who are legitimately trying to learn as much as we can, can then go learn and share all the info we know about DIY upgrades.

Plus, if there are any ignorant or repetitive remarks in these threads you can easily just have the maker of that specific gun's DIY thread delete it.

All in all I think it would be really helpful to have the specific DIY sections because it would keep the majority of the helpful DIY info in a categorized place. Unlike now where you have to search a pretty large part of the forum or make a whole new thread just to answer one simple question.

PLEASE NOTE: When I say DYI, I'm referring toward things like using electrical tape to make barrel spacers or filling your stock with cotton balls to help silence the rifle or using rubber padding on the piston head and air nozzle to decrease sound. Things that you can do at home for cheap to help increase the performance, durability, or look of the rifles without having to spend a 1K on upgrades (though to have a truly good rifle this will eventually have to be done anyway).

Anyway thats my 2 cents. Again sorry for necroposting. I just believe that this should be done :).

recon, I thought something like this would be awesome for a while too... until i started working on my guns more lol. then what i realized is that the greater concepts of DIY and doing your own work on any AEG or Sniper rifle will work anywhere... Vindis DMR thread is a great example, his mods will work on any version mech box, yet in the thread he did them on a V2 and a V7 (i think???).

what makes the users on this forum unique is that for the most part we get the larger concepts (i.e. even compression and consistent air volume etc.) and modify them to our purposes and if something really unique or just awesome comes out of it then there is another post on it and we can show it off.

so on the one hand i can see a DIY forum where would could talk about all of the modifications that we do, but on the other hand most of them are already out there in various parts of other rifle forums.

Eh the fun part is making my rifle my own through hard work haha. I guess figuring it out for yourself is all a part of that though. Anyway, I just think it should be reconsidered.
I have no problem either way, and can make the appropriate sections, but this is Livonia's forum and he has the ultimate say either way. I can see in some cases this being beneficial, but as stated, in many cases it'll be a lot of redundant information as well.

The way I see this working best is to just put whatever your DIY mod is into it's own thread in the appropriate section, and whenever the mods feel there is enough pooled info, merge the threads and sticky them like so.
