I think the thread just a few above yours titled "making a ghillie" may have some information on making a ghillie,lol.. I would browse threw that and it should be in there buddy.. also just below that is a tutorial on making ghillies.. I would just unroll and cut how long you want each strand to be and gather them into a bundle.. Then seperate your large bundle into however many colors your going to use. Make sure you take pics of your progress so others can check it out.. Good luck and have fun my friend..
When I did mine, I used the powdered RIT Dye in a big plastic tub of hot water. The stuff was pretty cheap and it worked well.
I used dye made for ghillies and such, and I had to wing it because it came without a ''recipe''. I pretty much had to wing it, and it came out good. I would follow the guide above your post about making a ghillie.
In my opinion the stuff on the roll is more difficult to work with, is it an individual strand or multiple stands braded or rolled together? either way unroll it, cut it into lengths you want, I would recommend 18 - 24 inches long then dye it in a tub or bucket with a fabric dye
Just got back from Walmart, I dont like the rolled up kind they had. It was more like a stiff rope instead of the kind of jute I recall getting before. I would rather use yarn again instead of that rolled jute! "My yarn ghillie was amazing!"

I bought some just plain tan burlap at Lowe's (outside in gardening section) and unwound it for my ghillie. I then dyed it with the dye mentioned above from K-Mart.
If you unwind the rolled jute or use a wire pet brush it should get a more 'burlap-like' consistency.

Personally though, I'm not a huge fan of rolled jute either. That was possibly just because my first ghille was made with that and my first ghillie was a little shabby, haha.
On my second ghillie, I just cut long strips of burlap, tied a knot in the center and used a hot glue gun to stick them to the BDU's. That worked just as well, if not better than sewing netting one. I didn't dye anything with that suit, just used the realtree burlap and then weathered it in the mud.
