Echo 1 ASR front post

I've been thinking about adding a 1 or 2 inch rail to the front of my echo 1 ASR's barrel in order to place an AR type ris mounted front post so I could use iron sites. So far I'm thinking about shaving a small rectangular piece of metal on one side to the curve of the outer barrel, applying JB weld or epoxy, and then applying epoxy or JB welding the rail to the metal. Any suggestions?
