Echo 1 ASR Knowledge Compendium

First off I'd like to attribute this information to bobgengeskahn, Ronin055, and the many other helpful people on here and on airsoftforum.com. None of this is my own work; I just happen to have read about the Echo 1 ASR for 30 hours so far this week.

What I found is the lack of an "all you can eat" collection of information for this rifle. My goal is to provide that. Moderators, please feel free to edit this post.

ECHO 1 ASR - http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_113&products_id=6572 - $100-115 USD

About the base rifle:
The Echo 1 ASR is a rebrand of the WELL MB06. On the lower end of the price range for sniper rifle platforms, it is generally accepted that upgrades are required to field this weapon in a war. This is also one of the few bolt action sniper rifles (BASR) that can be easily modified to a left-handed rifle.

Are there common issues?:
The number one reported issue is a loose stock. This can be corrected by disassembling the receiver and tightening the stock from the inside.

What parts should I upgrade?:
Here is a list of upgrade parts, based on a mash-up of bob's, Ronin's, and various posts I have found. I'm adding in 'options' so you can play with your price range. When it comes to quality though, you get what you pay for.

Compatibility explained by bob:
"Cylinder, trigger, piston, spring, guide etc. are APS2. Hop up, barrel, spacers, outer barrel threads are L96."
Upgrade Kits: $33-
Echo 1 - This kit comes with "an upgraded metal spring guide, upgraded metal piston, an upgraded spring, and a torque absorbing bearing set." - $33

Inner Barrel: $35-74
What to look for? Steel and brass are superior materials than aluminum.
Prometheus 455mm / 6.03mm EG Tight Bore Barrel for Airsoft AEG (AK47, AK47S Length) - $74

LONGER BARRELS, REQUIRE SILENCER/BARREL EXTENSION

MadBull Ver. 2 Precision Inner Barrel for M16 (509mm) - $35
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?products_id=1231

Why nothing longer?
vindi says: "It has long been accepted in the spring powered bolt action world that anything over 509mm is pointless and actually causes the rifle to be less accurate"
Barrel Spacers: $18-20
You can also make your own if you are on a budget.
Hop Up Chamber: $85
Hop Up Bucking: $5-16
Spring: $15-20

Why nothing more powerful (>170)?:
bobgengeskahn says: "I would also recommend that people NOT put anything over a M150 or M170 spring. I have a M210 in mine and have successfully torqued/bent my bolt handle."

What DIY upgrades should I perform?:
Should I "swiss-cheese" my piston?
vindicareassassin replies: "For all those of you who are thinkin 'Oh, I'll Swiss cheese my piston as it will be lighter and spring forward easier', stop it! Leave such mods to the go faster full auto queens, for a DMR it is a good thing to have the extra weight. You will need the extra weight in the piston to help to shift the heavy weight BBs you should be using, as nothing gets things moving like a heavy object with some inertia behind it. "

Is the cylinder not compatible to APS-2 which is CA M24?

Does the ASR need upgrades? Are there a lot of ASR owners?
The cylinder itself isn't APS-2 but all the insides of it are. It's actually very close to an MK96; weird cylinder but APS-2 compatible parts and MK96 hop up. The only companies I know of that make cylinders for the ASR are AirsoftPro who then sell to ASPUK and PDI.

My ASR is completely stock but I'm saving up for a new hop up and cylinder because I ripped my bucking and want a better hop anyway because ASR hops SUCK.
Aftermarket companies are usually small but do make stuff people want. What they do is make what you will buy. What they don't spend their business time trying to find these specialized forums.

There is a lot threads on Echo1 guns on the ASF. You guys should get [email protected] to hang out here.
Anyone know if this polarstar piston will work in the echo1 or anyone have reviews of it?

Also it doesn't say in the main post but what piston heads are people using?
i would sugest not getting the pdi because the stock hop up with a good barrel would be just as acurate

srry for the bad spelling
After reading the inital post, im assuming there is no replacement bolts, As i find the ASR's bolt handle to small.

Is it possible to buy the echo 1 m28 bolt handle and dremel it to fit the ASR?
I got a tsd sd98 which is the same gun with some upgrades, the grip is pretty sucky, just too small and the texture hurts after a while. I cut a piece of bicycle tube, stretched and trimmed. now it feels thicker and is a pleasure to hold. I am thinking about filling it with hot glue.

The trigger box APS2 is compatible with ASR? I am looking to replace my a metal because I'm afraid to break it after up to 530 ~ 550fps.
IDK if the APSII trigger box is compatible, but you shouldn't worry about breaking it at 550. Mine chronos at 640 with the stock trigger. Worry about the bolt first. If you're using a stock piston at 550, which is possible with simple mods, you'll probably break your piston before you break the trigger.

You chronos at 640fps only in test or when you play with her this power?
the trigger box with a colleague broke 510 fps, and very weak, disappointing.

Since I did the conversion I only use the ASR in private games with extended AOE, otherwise its too much trouble to convert it back and forth to make it field legal for regulation fields.
Well written! Thanks so much for the thread!!!

But, Can someone help me?

I have a WELL MB06, will it still be able to take the Echo 1 ASR parts?

Please help me!

Thanks,
Brandon
Wow two years since I first visited this forum... I was wondering how much success people have had with real steel grips on the asr or if anyone can offer some detailed info. I know the adapter is no longer available unless someone knows a small custom shop that makes them. I found some advice on doing it with what looks like an aeg grip but I do not think I would like to go through all that as it does not look too stable. I had read in this review that a real steel grip can fit with some modification, namely removing a nub and securing it some other way, but I can't find specifics and would appreciate detailed info. (Sadly saint on page one never posted back after his trip to Cabella's.) If a real steel isn't too hard to get on there then I would definitely want to replace the grip with the surefire grip here but I want to get some advice before spending anything on something that may not work.

Hello folks,

I know the thread is a bit older, but I have a question to one of the parts, someone linked in it. I wanna put an AR rifle grip (Python Sniper Style) to my gun and I can't find this adaptor anywhere. Does any of you know, if and where I can get one of these still or are they all out? Appreciate the help.

Cheers

can you guys tell me if everything fits the echo1asr?
im not sure about triggerbox.. ill prob leave that alone
I think you can save money by getting the the tsd sd98 which is a clone that comes with upgraded spring and piston already, Ive shot mine thousands of times and trigger box is fine.
I have a ASG Urban sniper which is technically the same as WELL MB-06. Fairly accurate but the FPS drops quickly. A good investment though.
Ive purchased an ASR.... HELP!!

Ok so I would like a little bit of help. I recently purchased an Echo 1 ASR. I did the research and was watching the Youtube videos showing people disassembling and "upgrading" the weapon. So i purchased this Angel Custom Advanced Precision Airsoft APS / APS2 / Type 96 / M99 500 FPS SP170 Tune Up Kit, Accessories & Parts, Sniper Rifle Parts, *Shop by Model, APS-2 / Type 96 - Evike.com Airsoft Superstore . Come to find out it doesnt work. I contacted the Techs on Evike and they basically told me its an un-upgradable weapon system. Now with my experience i have never seen an Airsoft gun that wasnt upgradable. I wanted to 100% upgrade it. Trigger, cylinder, piston, spring, spring guide, inner barrel, hopup, and a new barrel cap. I just cant find anyone or any site that can give me 100% guarantee that this or that will fit. If anyone on here can help me I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
