Compare (or better yet post a pic) of the stock hop up unit next to the PDI with the feeding window facing up. Check to make sure that the windows line up, but more importantly that the set screw holes are lined up. When it makes the "poof" noise is there a BB in the chamber?
It is possible you aren't pulling back far enough, I know with my ASR you have to damn near try to pull the bolt out to get it back far enough to load.
Another option is shaving down the front of your nozzle just a little.
