Echo1 ASR HopUp question

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and have been doing a lot of research here and other places before I decided to buy the ASR. The first thing that I did when I received it was to break the whole thing down and start on some mods, here is what I did.

1. Bore out and polish the cylinder head
2. Polish the cylinder
3. Add spring spacer to the spring guide
4. Swiss cheese the piston
5. Polish and wax the stock inner barrel
6. Added 3 barrel spacers
7. Teflon tape mods (tapped everything, hop up, cylinder head, hop up threads etc.)

I went ahead and got the firefly bucking (the only aftermarket part that I purchased for it) and I am having trouble deciding if I should use the original bucking or the firefly (I know this may sound like a noob dilemma but hear me out)

I have not chronoed it yet, but stock it shoots 470-480, with the spacer I am assuming it is around 500-510. I am using Javelin .36 non-bio BBs and Mad Bull .43 non-bio BBs. For all of the shots the hop up was set all the way down (off?) so turning down the hopup is not an option (unless there are mods to the hop up that I can do that I havent heard of yet)

The firefly has A LOT of hop, I whipped it with dental floss and then wrapped the whole thing with teflon tape before re-installing it.
Pros:
The firefly is more consistent than the stock bucking.
(2" @ 30' and about 7" @ 90' with no fliers)

Cons:
Way too much hop to use .36s, can only use .43s
At 90' the BB flight path dips about a foot before hitting target.

The stock bucking was installed the same way (dental floss and teflon tape)
Pros:
Flight path is flatter over all
I can use .36s (closer range 30'-40') and .43s (longer) and still hold tighter groups

Cons:
Groups are slightly larger and there is a flier every 4th or 5th shot
(2.5" @ 30' and about 9" @ 90' not counting fliers)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need more information just let me know. Also, I know that there has been a severe lack of information on this rifle, so if you have any questions feel free to ask (but please dont hijack my thread!!! if people really want I can do a review with pictures). Thanks!

EDIT: (forgot to state my question
) Is it better to have a level flight path? or is it better to have a potentially longer range and have to accommodate for the dip? On real firearms this isnt an issue cus the flight path takes the bullet up then down... but airsoft is a little... different

1. sorry, totally missed that one sub-folder, posted now

2. lol, definitely not PLANNING to engage under ~55ft. simply trying to describe the trajectory of the BB

3. I realize that there isn't info on it, the gist of my question is more of a non-specific hop up question, I just figured Id offer the information if anyone is wondering about it. I can't remember which forum I was looking at, but some people were asking very specific questions about the piston design etc. and I figured Id offer to answer anyones questions if anyone on this forum has any about it. (although that link is an awesome ref. for this rifle, I somehow failed to find it before
)

4/5. thanks for the advice. I figured that consistancy would be more desireable than trajecotry since you can compensate for that... I've been airsofting and working on my own AEGs for a while, this is my first time doing something this precision oriented on a springer, but so far I like the challenge

Again, thanks for that link, lots of good information there!

what would anyone think of trimming the inside of the bucking? I was thinking about this earlier today and remember someone (I think Vindi) talking about turning the buckings inside out and trimming something out. in the case of the firefly there is a really large "v" style... bump? on the inside of the bucking (versus the normal linear ridge across the top) would trimming that down be effective? or would I just be ruining my bucking?

Work your way down to emery cloth then polish the living shit out of that barrel so that superglue would run off it(don't actually try that, just a figure of speech)
Lol thanks, Ill try to remember that.

according to the Manufacturer specs its a 6.06 x 445mm barrel... I dont know what usually comes in stock barrels, but I know that TB is considered <= 6.05.... so I figured for the time being 0.01mm wont be that big of a deal... (mainly because I'm planning to play on the 29th and I dont think i can get a barrel by then where I live since the only local shop doesnt really have sniper rifle parts...)

but for the future...
I recall seeing a thread on here entitled "TBB Necessary?" but for some reason the link I bookmarked is dead now) talking about stock barrels and accuracy. I followed the same process outlined in this thread when i polished the stock barrel on my ASR. (basically used a cleaning rod, a drill, brasso and some rags) and used just one coat of turtle wax.

So when you say that my problem might be not using a TBB... is that because the BB is too loose in the barrel all together which is causing the dip in the flight path? a little confused on this point since it seemed that a lot of the forum seemed to agree with the polishing idea...

If you get a qualitly 6.02 barrel you wont have to do any of the above ;)

My advice with the barrel...... Try a 6.05 barrel from a known company. These can be had for around $50 or so. I have a 6.05 in my long barreled VSR and the thing works better than some of the 6.00 that I have had. Just need to find the ballance between fps and weight.
what is considered a "known company" around these parts? I have heard of EDGI and some other higher end custom manufacturers and DB and such, so obviously those, but as far as mainline which is generally considered good?

Yes, the ASR was made for the budget sniper that wanted decent performance at a good price, but I dont mind doing some higher end upgrades or my own custom work. As far as the barrel goes I really dont mind spending some extra money on a good barrel (mainly because the MadBull that Echo1 is advertising as the "ideal" upgrade barrel for it is a little odd... I mean right in the description it says that you should not be worried about scratches on the inside or black flakes coming out as it is "normal").

So typically you hear that Prometheus, Laylax and Systema are at the top of the production TBBs out there... but how are they typically viewed here, since ya'll have a bit more of a practical knowledge and a no BS attitude. (which is kind of nice since a lot of other forums are sponsored by manufacturers or retailers).

EDIT:
If I can get my hands on a long enough TBB in the next few days I might actually just fold and get it. However I dont think that I will be able to get one specific for this hop up, so whats your guys opinion on this:

This guy has a whole list of mods in this thread, I'm referring to mainly the one where he talks about modding a barrel for a different hop up unit...

Laylax and prommy barrels are shit avoid them like the plague.
Well, I took your advice and got a barrel... my local store had some DB Customs laying around for a decent price, 6.01x463. We'll see how this goes, I'm pretty excited to see how it all turns out!
i posted pics in the gallery with updates and specs, if you have any specific questions you can pm me, i pretty much know almost everything about this gun at this point lol.
