I was probably biased on sound lol. Bullet valve rifles have nothing on my BASR >. Although, if neither gun was tampered with, then I'd agree with BV rifles.

+1 On springer replacement parts.

Going back to the OP's concern; I believe that the sniper rifle itself is still missing that extra UMPHH. Until we're allowed to use special ammo for sniper rifles or some other sniper rifle innovation is made, then other platforms will be capable of performing at a nearly identical level.

I have absolutely no experience with BVs. In fact I didn't know what they were until yesterday. But I can say that I also can't stand the grinding AEG sounds. Especially the strange whirring sound my friend's gun makes when on full auto. Sounds like it's going to break any second even though it's lasted a year now. Anyway, the sound is really only a problem if you are a sniper. CQB people don't mind because what's it going to do to them if they have the loudest gun on the field? They don't need to hide themselves. Because we are snipers and we need concealment to do our jobs, We need to silence our guns as much as humanly possible. Stressing quiet guns is a good thing.

I get what your friends are saying and I believe that, IF you take the role factor out, airsoft is technically giving BASRs a disadvantage.

DMRs shoot faster in a fixed time window thus allowing the shooter to increase the hit chance over a BASR. Range-wise, they are comparable and hit-chance wise there is not much gap..this is why the RoF gives semi auto rifles the ultimate advantage.

If a BASR in airsoft had 150% to twice the range of other rifles and/or had tighter (MUCH tighter) grupings than other rifles, then I believe BASRs would get back into the game..

But you can't hit someone with a .88g BB delivering 4-7 Joules, because the MED would become over 100 yards lol

So I think ghillie suits are great, sniper roles are great, etc. etc. but I think BASR rifles are used because of the cool and fun/role factor..because I would use DMRs even in a full sniper loadout..to use BASRs you really have to be dedicated to the role image

These are just my opinions, I never played either DM or sniper roles, so I am conscious I am judging from the exterior side of the thing

You need skill to get any of these requirements in the first place. While there are times when you may not need to be concealed, it is the sniper's ultimate weapon in airsoft. You can have all the patience in the world, but if you don't conceal yourself it doesn't matter. quietness is part of being concealed, so we don't need that as one of them.

When I say quietness I mean how a BASR is much quieter than any DMR....
That is a major factor for concealment and a major factor in using a BASR over a DMR.

I started back in 2000 with a bolt rifle,played a few year as sniper, then got a decent aeg. I did get more kills but it just was not the same feeling inside. I felt much more at home with a bolt rifle, more stealthy for some reason. I just play different when using a bolt rifle than I do with an aeg. I like to roll off by myself without any spotters or backups cause they tend to blow my cover way too much! My m28 was pretty quiet, had extreme range and great accuracy! I only pulled the trigger when I was at least 95% sure I'd get the kill. I dont know why but being a sniper just feels right to me. I found that I dont even much care for aeg's! Most people get that super neat looking sniper rifle and expect to become Carlos Hathcock but end up dropping the snipers role fast and buy an aeg.

Its not the weapon that wins the battle, its the soldier. The rifles just aid in our sneakyness "I know thats gotta be spelled wrong" But most any m4 yealding grunt will say they HATE snipers cause they can be so deadly on the field. Plus it takes forever to get through a bottle of ammo,lol..

I think snipers play a significant role in winning games in airsoft, but go unseen a lot. I mean, good snipers are concealed and pick off key targets to help their team, but half the time your team doesn't even know you're doing it!

MiloXC3 you're right, I want to add the fact, once you hit someone from the opponent team his teammates start to move with caution thus delaying giving your team the time to regroup and make a strategy.
Of course there's the recon role when you give targets possition to the assault gunners!

The problem now is the summers heat... I can't even think of wearing the ghillie suit!

I think the AEG-noise line is a faulty concern. An AEG does not have to be noisy. I know a 1,930rpm aeg that is whisper quiet on full-auto, and I know some DMRs that make very little noise over 20 ft and certainly are inaudible at the MED.

So, we are left with something just as long-ranged, just as accurate and with much higher refire.

The distinct sound of the gears make me cringe, not necessarily the volume; it sounds like I'm driving an RC car.
