Whats up brahs, SamuraiBrah here, and I need some help with field communications.

Field communications being walkie-talkies, or anything else of that nature. The past few times I've been out I haven't used a radio and it obviously heavily affected my performance as a sniper. What I need to know is what kind of radio(s) I need to get. I usually use my dad's walkie-talkies but I can't remember if they were able to link up with other radios. I'm not even entirely sure if radio is the right word for it, but you get my meaning.

I'm pretty sure any old headset will hook up to the radios, correct me if I'm wrong.

Some things I need to know are:
>Can I get any walkie-talkie style radio and link it up to different branded ones, or will every radio need to be the same?
A link to some cheap radios would definitely be appreciated.

>Any tips on how to effectively use the radio?
As in what are different types of information I can relay that would be helpful to my team.

Thanks a lot guys, maybe if we get some solid information in here I will compile or make up a guide, unless it's already been done.

What brand radio were you using? Make sure you have yours set to the same channel/sub-channel of who you are trying to communicate with. Most Motorola radios that I have tried have worked fine. You may want to invest in a headset of some sort for your radio and a PTT (Push To Talk). Hope this helps.

It does actually.

Are there any cheap handsets/PTT products you can point me towards? Or will any cheapo walmart product work?

baofeng uv5r if you like to set up frequencies and use multiple band. If your teammates only use FRS/GMRS band buy a simple midland radio with predefined channels.
Pick a headset or a GOOD (costly!) throat mic that you like. A remote PTT is a valuable asset (I prefer a finger mounted one).

A finger mounted PTT sounds pretty cool, and throat mics are really interesting. I don't have the money to buy one, but I'd love to find someone with one and try it out. I wonder how the voice sounds, I would think robotic like a voice masker.

As said above, Motorola and others are good brand of radios. But when it comes to headsets, you have to make extra sure that the pin on the headset will fit the PTT/radio. Otherwise you are left with an expensive and useless headset. Good headsets are Peltor Comtac's, MSA Soridin's and Bowman's. There are also airsoft replicas of these.

What country you are in affects what radios are legal and what frequencies most people use. Where are you based?

DIfferent brands of radio use different connectors for headsets so its not quite one size fits all.
