So it has been a long time since I have posted anything. I am kind of bored and figured I would write about my rifle.
I have been using a stock UTG MK-96 (with all the DIY mods like teflon tape, spring spacer, barrel spacers, and the likes.) With the spring spacer It was shooting a little hotter then stock spring fps, just enough to put me on top of anyone using a bone stock bolt action. I was happy with the accuracy and range of .3 bb's. After getting the hop up and scope right where I liked, I had a hard time deciding to upgrade it. I was worried I wouldn't get it tuned quite as perfect or mess everything up. Im sure some of you know that feeling.
I read up a lot on the PDI hop up and saw many mixed opinions on it. The reviews were always one sided. It was either described as too much of a hassle and a waste of money or a godsend to sniping as a whole(maybe a little bit of exageration
.) The main draw to it was the use of aeg barrels and buckings. I recently saw the PDI hop up in stock at airsoftatlanta. due to the fact that it is only in stock in the US once every decade I decided to buy it.
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality. Installing it required some mechanical knowledge and a little bit of luck. The arms were in need of a little shimming to increase consistency of hop on the nub. I used gearbox shims and sanded them down a little to fit. I put one on each side of the arms. The little silver bar that the 2 hop arms are attached to slid out to easily so i filled the holes on the sides with a little glue so it could not go anywhere (not that it would once it was inside the barrel anyway.) I also purchased the madbul blue bucking and a madbul inner barrel. Sadly the inner barrel didn't ship due to it being out of stock. I instead used a longer 650mm madbul barrel that i had laying around.
I have also been looking at is a trigger system. Not wanting to spend $200+ at the moment for one I decided to risk the new airsoft GI heat treated trigger/piston sear. So far it seems to work alright. The only bad thing is that my trigger pull is much heavier and will take some getting used to. We will see if it lasts for the long run.
The last part I put into my gun was the UTG upgrade kit with piston, spring guide and spring. I was aiming for 570-600 fps with .2's and then shooting with .4's. I have not had anywhere to chrono yet so I do not know where I stand.
After all parts were installed I had a harder bolt pull which makes sense and like I said before a harder trigger pull. I used my .3's for some non zeroed in shots and quickly realized that i need a heavier bb. My range was also notably longer. I sadly was not able to test accuracy to a T yet. I was looking into trying the madbul .4's or the we precision .4's. Any thoughts on those bb's?
Anyway, I got my airsoft fill for the day by typing this up. Any comments or anything are welcome and Keep Shooting everyone.
