I got told today by my mate that he knows someone who converted their l96 to gas by putting a gas bolt in. I am wondering if this is possible, worth it and we're to get the parts from. BTW I have a spring well l96.

Most of those gas bolts are out of stock, but you might have a chance searching through some overseas websites.

I would say that the gas bolt is worthless UNLESS you hook it up to HPA. That would fix the inconsistencies with the gas bolt.

One question about that though.... how do you even hook up the HPA to the bolt itself!?!? Isn't it done through the magazine reservoir?

The gas bolt goes into a spring rifle, so the same magazine will be used. When the rifle is cocked, the striker spring gets pulled back (kind of like the main spring in a springer rifle's bolt) and when the trigger is pulled, the spring is released.

The fill valve is on the side of the bolt, so you would have to drill and tap that, put in a 1/8 fitting and then have your line connected to it.

To me, it would just be too much trouble than it is worth, I mean just get a Tanaka system and run the HPA out of the magazine. The only pluses I can think out with this set-up is being able to change your mags without disconnecting a hose and also, having a unique rifle.

If you can find one the well G22 (I think) comes with a gas bolt, in the UK there are a few L96 shaped ones floating around, I own one of the L96 ones. From what I have read and seen myself they are really badly made O rings do not fit well and the threads are really badly cut :(

G&G do a replacement gas bolt not sure that will fit though:

Here is a thread for a CO2 rig:

Not much information but some pictures at least :)
