Hi there!!

I know a lot of people make their intro thread as is is a required pre-requisite to posting elsewhere on the forum, but although I have nothing thread-worthy yet I wanted to introduce myself as a mark of respect for the massive amount of information and advice I have gleaned from your site in an incredibly short space of time.

I would go as far as to say that whilst there are literally thousands of airsoft forums, this is THE definitive place for learning about the sniper speciality.

I'll do the brief intro first for the sake of those who are easily bored:

Name: Pete

Occupation: 2nd officer on a North Sea based AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessel

Callsign: Tarmageddon

Country: UK

Experience: In airsoft, nothing but excited anticipation. A friend has asked me to join his club and offered to lend me his Cyma G36C until I buy my own equipement.

Military: None

Marksmanship:
I was taught to shoot by my father using a .177 break-barrel air rifle.
Whilst in the air Cadets I obtained an ATC marksmans badge using a .22 bolt-action and an RAF marksmans badge using the 5.56mm L98 Cadet GP.
I was the coach of a county league air rifle team shooting in the standing 7-metre discipline but unfortunately my work came in the way of that.
I also do rat-catching for local residents.

Guns:
My first was a Gamo PR45 .177 target air pistol which my father bought for me for my 13th birthday.

I now also own these:

The top one is my Feinwerkbau P70 (ALU) target rifle that I used when I was shooting league, I guess you could say it's my pride and joy. The sights are non-lensed diopter sights and the foresight has an adjustable iris (meaning you dont have to change the glasses)
The bottom one is a Weirauch HW77K .22 spring air-rifle that has seen most use nabbing rats from peoples back gardens. The sight is an AGS 3-9x40.
(I hope you dont mind me posting a pic but we all like pictures of shineys, right?)

Hobbies: Amateur mechanics and engineering (messing about with cars)
Computer gaming
Scuba diving
Music, beer, dance all those good things

Hopefully to add airsoft to the list... I really miss shooting since I left the target league and hopefully this will be what I am looking for.

Now, thats the brief version. For those of you who are interested I want to write a little more about myself and my motivations.

I am afraid having read your forum FAIRLY thoroughly (it would take me all year to read it all!!) that I am going to conform to some rather unfortunate cliches that I see recurring in your pages. I want to be totally up front about them, but also give a little by way of explanation... kind of like a new point of view if you will?

So, as I said, I am afraid I tick quite a few of your face-palm boxes!!
1) I HAVE chosen that I want to go down the sniper route, even before any time on an AEG
2) I WILL be using some kind of clone (A Well MB01 is what I have my eye on)
3) I WILL be upgrading said clone WAY before I am good enough to take advantage of those upgrades
4) I DO play call of duty

But before you ban me, I just want to offer up a little insight into why, despite reading all your advice telling me that all of the above is BAD... I am still set on going down the route of being a sniper...

1) Sniping before AEG: You can see from my marksmanship background that my main interest when it comes to shooting is accuracy and marksmanship. The sniper discipline is THE marksmanship speciality when it comes to airsoft, so why would I want to do anything else?

2) Using a clone: What I REALLY want is the Ares CheyTac M200 Intervention, but I can't really justify spending

Well thank you for the kind words guys!!

Woogie, thanks for the comment about the FWB, it truly is an amazing rifle and when I was using it in competitions I genuinely felt proud every time it came out of the case.

It took me by surprise when I first used it, before I got it I used to use the rifle owned by our club which was a FWB single-stroke side-lever rifle. The triggers are hair-light as you can imagine and as we were standing and aids such as slings that support the rifle were against the league rules there was a fair bit of "wander" ... you sort of had to "think" the rifle to fire as the sight went past the bull.

The P70 however is totally different. The first time I used it I realised it had been dead steady on the bull for what felt like forever, and as I wasn't expecting it I had completely forgotten to fire!!

It's absurdly adjustable as well... I would have to create an entire thread to list all the adjustments you can make but suffice to say you can make it fit your body EXACTLY, and the trigger is adjustable for first stage length and weight, and second stage weight as well as positional adjustments in every plane you can imagine!!

Rambling again...I do LOVE that rifle... can you tell?

Hello again,

I hope I dont upset you moderators by necroing my intro, but I thought it was more a continuation of my introduction rather than something that needed a whole new thread.

First.. I went airsofting for the first time this weekend and I bloody loved it!! I borrowed a friend's G36 AEG and went to a local airsoft location. Even now I can see that I am going to enjoy sniping when I get a bit more into it, we had a couple of "defend the objective" type scenarios and I got a few really good kills from being totally concealed and in a slightly unexpected position, so the effect of a more accurate rifle and even more experience will make the satisfaction even better!!

One of the things we were asked in the intro questions was about what camo we had, and up until this last weekend the answer was none.

However I got lucky, my father in law used to be a Police Tactical Firearms Unit sniper, and when I told him I was going airsofting he gave me his old kit bag, took a few stray live rounds out of it and said I could have it!!

The camos themself dont look much, but some of the hardcore airsofters at the place I lost my airsoft virginity got quite excited about them, said they are something either historical or special in some way...

They are extremely lightweight over-garments that I put on over the top of my normal out-doorsy clothes

A smock with a hood:

and a pair of trousers with suspenders:

Aparrently they were very recogniseable from the suspenders on the trousers and the small velcro tags on the cuffs of the smock. I cant actually remember what the guys said they were but maybe some of you know better than I do?

As well as a bunch of other stuff in the bag including a helmet cover that matches the other garments, some thermal trousers and a whole bunch of burlap and scrim net stuff I found this:

Its a very nice camo head-piece made of very fine man-made fibre mesh stuff. I saw a discussion on these boards about using face cream, but for those of you who dont like acne and a sticky face this thing could be an excellent alternative!!

It is made by a company called Realtree and although I didn't use it too much because it was raining a LOT and the effect of the mesh over my already damp and steamed up goggles was to render me completely blind. However with some nicer goggles and a nicer day I think it would be extremely effective!!

Until the next time!!

Yeah Fuzzy I am definitely going to get a rifle, I am waiting on a promotion and quite a considerable pay-rise so I am going to reward myself with something nice and, well, not SHINY obviously lol...

As far as the rifle itself is concerned Plan A is a Well MB01 with a complete set of internals designed for the Maruzen.

I actually prefer the Tokyo Marui L96 purely because it has the more realistic magazine, and its only about
inthetallgrass said:
If you want the aesthetics and the easier route for upgrading get the new well l96 on taiwan gun. It has a magazine in the right place and a flute barrel etc. And it's not the gas one, it's spring.
I looked at that site, but I was wondering if you could confirm which model the rifle you are referring to is? I see the MB08 is the newer Well L96 Spring model with the fluted barrel, but it appears that it still doesn't have the magazine... and the G96-A is gas powered.

Thanks for the help

Thats an awesome little modding guide thanks!!

I will have the money for the Marui, I am just a little worried that I am going to find it hugely difficult and expensive to upgrade compared to a clone.

Anyway, I am sure I will find out closer to the time. Thank you very much for the help so far :)
