Should probably contribute something while I'm here. This is my VSR, customization includes home made cheekrest made out of leftover material from ghilliemaking, paracord sling attachment points and stippling to grip and forearm.
I also tried out something I've been thinking about for a while, adding a holster to the rifle.
Obviously the M9 is way too big for this and the straps attaching the holster to the rifle removes access to the magazine but with a subcompact pistol like a G26 or a detonics and a better mounting solution it might be worth trying, or has it been done already?
My theory is that it would be rather more practical than drawing from a hip or thigh holster while prone if, say, a target suddenly pops up within your MED and you've been, or risk being, spotted. It would certainly add additional weight to your rifle and make dragging it (while doing the "sniper crawl" for instance) more difficult but if properly ghillied along with the rest of the rifle I don't think it would compromise your camouflage. I'll certainly be trying it out when I get a hold of a subcompact pistol with accompanying CQC holster, at least as a complement to my regular sidearm. I would much rather prefer this solution to other stock mounted holster solutions I've seen which end up pointing the business end of the pistol into your shoulder.
